"Apocalypsis" - A Poem from Nearly 20 Years Ago
I wrote a lot of poetry back during my undergrad days, but once I found that I enjoyed doing fiction more, I never picked it back up (despite filling a huge notebook with well-transcribed versions along with accompanying images). Since Steemit seems to have a thriving (and growing) poetry community, I thought I'd add a little fuel to that particular fire. I hope you enjoy :)
Black steed, abysmal task
of dampening life and snuffing out
the Light already dim.
Light that zigs, pain that zags
Brightens a sky already lacking in brilliance,
Yet overlooking a world that used its intelligence
Inversely, leading itself to sleep without her help.
Black.
A lone leaf sways gently in the wind from what is,
Quite possibly, the last living thing on earth,
Stretching its hand from a symbolic grave below
And giving us hope that we can only make
One more mistake...
Before she returns. When we've become too intelligent again.

The poem has a certain existential nihilistic quality about it.......
Perhaps it's my mood:D
nihilism is nice in small doses :P
