"Poke, Process, Repeat" - More Old Poetry

I wrote a lot of poetry back during my undergrad days, but once I found that I enjoyed doing fiction more, I never picked it back up (despite filling a huge notebook with well-transcribed versions along with accompanying images). Since Steemit seems to have a thriving (and growing) poetry community, I thought I'd add a little fuel to that particular fire. I hope you enjoy :)

She had a taste that left
my lips quivering
long after hers had stopped
and it was all I could do to
breathe slowly,
holding fingers back
from clutching too tight
when charged with
sex-rated assault and flattery,
which came with a year
in solitary.
She was heroin chic
if addictions came in
first hits
first drips
first blood drawn
with shared needle tips
or could be considered
fashionable
in any sense.
Neck bitten like
tourniquet pulled tight,
the track marks left behind
hid best beneath
the shakes and overcoat
even in the deepest fever
brought on by absence of needle
and the brown powder kisses
twisted and misted by fire.
Hypodermics have a habit
of hitting harder
than the other drugs
on the playground.
