"Dream of a Dream" - A Poem from Nearly 20 Years Ago

(Salvador Dali's "The Dream Caused by the Flight of a Bee around a Pomegranate a Second Before Awakening")

I wrote a lot of poetry back during my undergrad days, but once I found that I enjoyed doing fiction more, I never picked it back up (despite filling a huge notebook with well-transcribed versions along with accompanying images). Since Steemit seems to have a thriving (and growing) poetry community, I thought I'd add a little fuel to that particular fire. I hope you enjoy :)

I stand here,
Writing,
Above you, your body
Lithe and supple.
Naked and wrapped around bedsheets
That capture the glow
Of the moon in your cheeks.
A pale flush runs through
Your face and a quizzical smile
On your lips;
Your eyes dance behind
Eyelids, shut in dreams of
Dreams of dreams.
And I tear my gaze away,
Staring out the window
As a breeze glides past the
Curtain and over your body,
Now shivering.
I get up to hold you,
Only to find that I've woken up
From a dream of a dream
Of a dream.
