"Un-" - More Old Poetry
I wrote a lot of poetry back during my undergrad days, but once I found that I enjoyed doing fiction more, I never picked it back up (despite filling a huge notebook with well-transcribed versions along with accompanying images). Since Steemit seems to have a thriving (and growing) poetry community, I thought I'd add a little fuel to that particular fire. I hope you enjoy :)
I am the unembarrassed lover
holding firm to heart on sleeve
and turning constellations
into fireworks,
the smoke of want hanging heavy
on clear night’s shoulders.
I am the undeterred lover
holding firm to heart on sleeve
shouting my devotion
through concrete walls
and into courtyards, reverberating
and echoing back.
I am the unrelenting lover
holding firm to heart on sleeve
palms outstretched infinitely
in a ‘leg up, not hand out’ philosophy
so that both of us enjoy
this cloud above the rest.
