"...And on the 8th Day" - More Old Poetry

I wrote a lot of poetry back during my undergrad days, but once I found that I enjoyed doing fiction more, I never picked it back up (despite filling a huge notebook with well-transcribed versions along with accompanying images). Since Steemit seems to have a thriving (and growing) poetry community, I thought I'd add a little fuel to that particular fire. I hope you enjoy :)

…and on the 8th day,
He muttered something
like ‘finally’
and put the E-Z Bake Universe
kit back upon shelf
and sat back to view
Creation
while drinking brew
fit for a deity.
He webbed his fingers
‘round the top
and spun it near the Sun,
(made with ease on day one)
and pleased with the new concoction,
reclined in the just delivered
La-Z-God chair.

He was pleased with the stars
though they could’ve been brighter,
but the animals were splendid
and Adam’s mate a work of art.
Paradise was perfect
and, yes, temptation
snaked right through the middle
when a ripened apple flattened the soufflé
and nearly got Earth tossed out
with the pans the Mars dish
had been blackened in.

The Moses part of recipe
(which came with
long list of instructions)
could wait until tomorrow.
The guests would be coming soon
and hors d’oeuvres
of martyr bread and wine
had yet to be prepared
for the celebration
of His first main course.
