"Natural Selection" - More Old Poetry

I wrote a lot of poetry back during my undergrad days, but once I found that I enjoyed doing fiction more, I never picked it back up (despite filling a huge notebook with well-transcribed versions along with accompanying images). Since Steemit seems to have a thriving (and growing) poetry community, I thought I'd add a little fuel to that particular fire. I hope you enjoy :)

breath pushed out
fast, hard from lungs while
whispered moans
through bathroom walls
slither ‘round tiles
turning secrets into truths,
girls into women,
and men into devils
with horned tales
to tell their friends.

commit an act of heroinism
and have it smacked down
purely for the act
of poking, prodding
in vein
trying to find the quickest route
to the center of the heart,
if only to make a point
about the frailty
of addiction to anything.
