"Choir of Anvils" - More Old Poetry

I wrote a lot of poetry back during my undergrad days, but once I found that I enjoyed doing fiction more, I never picked it back up (despite filling a huge notebook with well-transcribed versions along with accompanying images). Since Steemit seems to have a thriving (and growing) poetry community, I thought I'd add a little fuel to that particular fire. I hope you enjoy :)

My imagination clocks in overtime,
punching in akin
to gloved fist
suckercutting this glassy jaw
into a crooked-jag smile of edges
alleging something just shy of amiss.
The 9 to 5 façade evolves
into one full-time rotation
of hammer on anvil,
sweat-cooled and tempered
into tools who’ve forgotten purpose
by the time the heat subsides.
A devil-fire keeping metal warm,
this tool is forever making,
forever taking formless shapes
and making form from
yellowed sparks and muscled sculpting,
forging metal into masterpiece
while working under blackened sky,
peppered with quick-death stars
begging me to finish
this steel-kissed statue
of dawn on the rise.
