As one of the Community Manager for the Translation Category in the Utopian-DaVinci collaboration, it is my task to get to know each member in our community. For this reason, I started interviewing the Language Moderators a few months ago. We are now moving forward interviewing our translators. They are the ones who are getting the translation done behind the scene.

I started interviewing the Spanish team first as this is the most vibrant team. Last week, we came to know the first 5 Spanish Translators. Today, we will meet the rest of the team.

The order of interviews are random and is of no significance. I list them in the order that they were interviewed.

6. @Dedicatedguy - Spanish Translator

As his username indicates, the perfect adjective to describe Grabiel would be “dedicated”. In his spare time, he likes to consume science fiction and horror content, either by reading stories, watching movies or playing video games. Those 2 genres are definitively his favorites. In addition, Gabriel has always been interested in science and technology. So for him, reading news, articles, or analysis about these 2 topics is almost as rewarding as entertaining himself with a good science fiction movie.

When it comes to sports, he only likes football. He followed football since he was a little kid and played a little bit of it as a striker when he was in school. So whever he can, he is always ready to watch a good match on TV. Most of the clubs that he likes to watch are from Europe because that’s where the big leagues are. Sometimes he also watches a local baseball match with friends or family because it is their national sport. Definitely, football is the one he enjoys the most.

As a Translator in Utopian-Davinci collaboration, his goal is to provide quality translations for projects that can bring value not only to the open source community, but to the tech community in general. He has always believed that technology is the best way for people to change the world for the better. He is always ready to help when it comes to localizing open source projects to the Spanish language.

Gabriel started translating when he was a new Steemian back in January. After he joined the Spanish team in September, he has contributed 28 translations to the Node.js project, which sometimes can be a little bit challenging, but for the most part the technical terms and the strings are not difficult.

As a translator, he loves the fact that he is helping projects with their localization process. It is also a very educational experience for him because while doing the translations, sometimes he needs to research into the meaning of a certain term. He finds myself learning new things about the project, and in general about computing.

7. @Thatmemeguy - Spanish Translator

@Thatmemeguy uses the word 'persistent' to describe himself. He enjoys designing, involving in radio shows, learning history, anime, trading and video games.

He has been working as a translator since the very beginning of the translation category back in 2017. He has really enjoyed the feeling of contributing to the community. For him, it is quite good to share the work with others by doing translation work effectively.

His great motto is: "Sharing is Caring". This motto intertwines his vision of a shared world. He loves the fact that the blockchain allows everyone to be closer together in ways that were impossible and unthinkable even a few years ago. And now he is even getting interviewed for a descentralized platform as a translator. How awesome!

He likes the fact that he has the freedom of working at his own pace and that he is actually translating things that are quite interesting. He is finding out new things everytime he translates. He enjoys translating Quasar Framework a lot. Doing the translation work for this project helps him to understand what the framework is about.

Thatmemeguy started being a DaVinci translator about 3 months ago. He has worked on these 2 projects: Node.js and Quasar framework. So far, he has done around 10 translations

8. @Isabella - Spanish Translator

Isabella is a highly committed person. She loves reading novels in different genres. Fantasy and history are her favorites.

She started translating on the Utopian platform back in December, 2017. So far, she has done around
50 translations and worked on projects such as SpongeDocs, Oro CRM, Verdaccio and lately Node.js. She enjoys translating project's documentation because she believes this is the core of a translator's work in helping a project to expand. As a translator, she can learn more about them so as to understand their impact on the FOSS community. This specifically applies to both SpongeDocs and Node.

What she likes most about being a translator is that she can learn many new things while researching on the projects. At the same time, she also expands her vocabulary on highly technical specialized words that are specific to the projects.

9. @Samuelmiller - Spanish Translator

Samuel describes himself as "constant". He likes to spend time recording and editing videos. He loves running. He runs three times a week.

He is always looking forward to seeing open-source projects growing internationally. He highly enjoys the opportunity of using English, either speaking or writing, when working on the translation. Being a part of the Spanish team helps him to accomplish his goal of using English on a daily basis.

He started translating in January, 2018. So far, he has done around 180 translations. He has worked on quite a few projects already: Node.js, BiglyBT, OroCRM, Cs Unplugged, GPS Logger, Alarm Morning, Dollar Street, BuddyPress, Hour of Code, Zen CoderDojo, Joomla! and ERPNext. His favorite project is translating Dollar Street since he has the oportunity to learn a LOT about how people from all over the world live. In this way, he gets to learn about different cultures.

He enjoys the new way of working in a translation team. Whenever he has a question regarding translation or anything relating to the project, there's always someone there to help him.

10. @Acrywhif - Spanish Translator

Reliable @Acrywhif is concerned about social problems. You find him participating in activities to improve the world. On a personal level, he enjoys music, singing, swimming and rock climbing.

As a translator for the Utopian-DaVinci collaboration, he looks forward to seeing projects spreading to different languages, making them available in different cultures.

Ever since he was little, he has always been the "go to" guy when people didn't understand something in English. Therefore, he feels very comfortable in the translation work.

He started doing translation for Utopian last December, 2017. So far he has done about 80 translations.

He has successfully helped translate the following projects: Roadiz CMS, Sickrage, Gapminder tools, Apereo OAE, Wallet Android, VLC, Bitshares, Prestashop, Verdaccio, Byteball. His latest work in progress is Node.js.

He has had a lot of joy contributing to Roadiz CMS, Prestashop and Byteball, because the developing teams were always really quick to answer his questions and were really happy with his translation. This motivates him to get more and more involved in the translation work.

On a more personal level, he had a pretty fulfilling experience as a teacher in a industrial management class talking about Prestashop. There, he had the opportunity to mention that he was part of the translating team for that project.

What Acrywhif likes most about the translation duty is that he can get into the depths of many projects that otherwise he wouldn't have ever known. Everyday he learns something new through the research process. It has really helped him to stay up-to-date in this fast-changing technological era.
