May 30 Days Writing Challenge - Day Twenty Eight: Given That Steemit Is Open Source, Would You Start A Steemit Clone? If Yes, Why? If Not, Why?

in #challenge30days7 years ago

This is the twenty-eight day of the May 30 days writing challenge started by @dragosroua. And here's my answer to today's question.

I would not launch a new Steem clone platform as I do not see value in it.

I do not have the technical knowledge to do so, but I do not see this as a barrier as there are plenty of people who have and if I had a sustainable project and the economic resources to manage it, I am sure I could find someone to take the CTO role.

To me, what is key to a new project is the value proposition. If you do have value, investors join the party and with investor money you can focus on the technical resources. But even if you have a good value proposition and economical resources there is plenty of work to do in order to succeed. You do not need to reinvent the wheel if you can use it, especially if it is a decentralized wheel and you do not depend on a centralized one.

My take would be to evaluate different options and use the one which would offer more time to focus on growing the audience. On top of that, if I could grow something big It might be smarter to just work together with the Steam core dev team than have an entirely new tech department.

Here are my previous day's challenges.
