Today I want to introduce you to some of my friends in Tuva as well as a small insight into the living conditions there. First there is Evgeny with wife and child. One of the nation's best Igil players and gifted overtone singer:

In 2006, on my third visit to Tuva, I was invited to the daughter's birthday, and this picture hangs in the living room and bears witness to this event.

2006, bei meinem dritten Besuch in Tuva war ich auf dem Geburtstag der Tochter eingeladen, und dieses Bild hängt im Wohnzimmer und zeugt von diesem Ereignis.

Then there is Belek, a young overtone singer, whom I had already met on previous trips. I happened to meet him in the city and take him along to give me a lesson in overtone singing.

Dann ist da noch Belek, ein junger Obertonsänger, den ich auch schon bei früheren Reisen kennengelert hatte. Ganz zufällig habe ich ihn in der Stadt getroffen und ihn mitgenommen um mir eine Lektion in Obertongesang zu geben.

A special friend from the southern province of Tuva. A language miracle: tuvinian, mongolian, russian, english and chinese he speaks fluently and cooking is his passion. He did not allow us to cook. We had to go to the city to buy all the ingredients. Sushi with salads was his goal and my hostess were almost crying when she came home: the young man was a student of her and her reunion has moved her very much.

Ein spezieller Freund aus der südlichen Provinz Tuvas. Ein Sprachwunder: tuvinisch, mongolisch, russisch, english und chinesisch spricht er fließend und kochen ist seine Leidenschaft. Er hat es sich nicht nehmen lassen uns zu bekochen. Dazu mussten wir allerdings erst in die Stadt fahren um alle Zutaten einzukaufen. Sushi mit Salaten war sein Ziel und meiner Gastgeberin sind schier die Augen herausgefallen als sie nach Hause gekommen ist: der junge Mann war ein Schüler von ihr und ihr Wiedersehen hat sie sehr bewegt.
