Dances of the North / Tänze des Nordens

The penultimate day in Yakutsk begins. My hostess is a lecturer at the university and invited me to take a lecture there. Wonderful! In Russian, of course. There are about 60 students in the big lecture hall waiting for the things to happen. I decide to hold a technical lecture, and build overtones and vibrations with the mechanics of bridges together. In order to make this clear, I teach them the MA-OM Mantra and it's fun and everyone is happy. When someone wants to listen to my music, I have no choice but to enchant them, in the way I always do, and even here in the critical circle of young people, not a few are very enthusiastic as they describe pictures from long forgotten times and also in a very flowery language.

Der vorletzte Tag in Jakutsk beginnt. Meine Gastgeberin ist Dozentin an der Universität und hat mich eingeladen dort eine Vorlesung zu halten. Wunderbar! In russisch natürlich. In dem großen Hörsaal sitzen etwa 60 Studenten und warten ob der Dinge die da geschehen werden. Ich entschließe mich eine technische Vorlesung zu halten, und baue Obertöne und Schwingungen mit der Mechanik von Brücken zusammen. Um das dann noch deutlich zu machen lerne ich ihnen noch das MA-OM Mantra und das macht dann richtig Spass und alle sind glücklich. Als dann noch jemand meine Musik hören will bleibt mir nichts anderes übrig als sie zu verzaubern, und zwar in der Art wie ich es immer mache und auch hier im kritischen Kreis der jungen Menschen sind nicht wenige total begeistert als sie Bilder aus lange vergessenen Zeiten auftauchen sehen und dies auch in sehr blumiger Sprache erzählen.

Like an omen while I look at these pictures Svetlana from the House of Culture calls and invite me to come in the evening to attend a cultural event in the theater. I will not get rid of the cranes on this day. To this I must remark that they are the most sacred birds of the Yakutians, and about them can be heard in many legends, fairy tales, and the epic song of the Yakuts, the Oloncho.

In großen Schaubildern sind ein paar Szenen des Nordens dargestellt: Der Tanz der weissen Kraniche und der Kampf um eine Robbe. Wie ein Omen ruft während ich diese Bilder betrachte das Swetlana vom Haus der Kultur an und läd mich ein am Abend zu kommen um eine Kulturveranstaltung im Theater zu besuchen. Die Kraniche werde ich an diesem Tag nicht mehr los. DAzu muß ich bemerken dass es sich um die heiligsten Vögel der Jakuten handelt und in vielen Legenden, Sagen, Märchen und dem Epengesang der Jakuten, dem Oloncho, immer wieder von ihnen zu hören ist.

Vor der Universität mache ich diese drei Bilder von einem Standpunkt aus, du kannst dich praktisch einmal drehen und einen Blick auf den Frühling werfen. Noch vor ein paar Tagen war dieser Kanal voll mit Menschen beim Schlittschuhlaufen, jetzt beginnt das Eis zu tauen und keiner traut sich mehr aufs Eis. Ganz links taucht dann die Uni auf.

And now the theme of the day: The Dances of the North. Using words to describe what was featured in the 2 hours on the stage would blow any frame, and therefore I have videotaped the main moments and not made any pictures. At home I had to realize, however, that the new memory card is defective and not a single video was recorded. So I really have only this one picture:

Und jetzt das Thema des Tages: Die Tänze des Nordens. Mit Worten zu beschreiben, was in den 2 Stunden auf der Bühne aufgeführt wurde würde jeden Rahmen sprengen, dasshalb habe ich die wichtigsten Momente videographiert und keine Bilder gemacht. Zu Hause musste ich aber feststellen, dass die neue Speicherkarte defekt ist und kein einzigers Video aufgezeichnet wurde. Also habe ich wirklich nur dieses eine Bild:

The next morning begins, my last one here in Yakutsk. Before the last dates I have some time and stroll around the house. This picture would give you a completely wrong impression of Yakutsk without knowing that the ice when thawing frees everything it has recorded in 7 months. In itself, Yakutia is a very clean country and for some days now, people with ice axes have been around to smash the last ice sheets. Special vehicles scrape up the ice from the streets and immediately load it up. In short, it's spring, no matter how cold it is.

Der nächste Morgen beginnt, mein letzter hier in Jakutsk. Bevor die letzten Termine anstehen habe ich etwas Zeit und schlendere ums Haus herum. Dieses Bild würde Dir einen völlig falschen Eindruck von Jakutsk vermitteln ohne zu wissen, dass das Eis beim Tauen alles freilegt was es in 7 Monaten aufgenommen hat. An sich ist Jakutien ein sehr sauberes Land und seit Tagen sind überall Leute mit Eispickeln unterwegs um die letzten Eisplatten zu zertümmern. Spezielle Fahrzeuge fressen das Eis von den Straßen und laden es gleich auf. Kurzum, es ist Frühling, egal wie kalt es ist.
