Professor Stephan

Nach dem arktischen Institut mache ich mich sofort auf den Weg zur Universität, Professor Stephan watet auf mich. Ich kenne ihn von letzten Jahr und er ist ein Wunder an Energie, nicht nur dass er deutsch spricht, nein er ist Spezialist für die Turksprachen und in der Uni hoch angesehen. Mit ihm werde ich meinen Vortrag üben, den ich ja morgen auf der Konferenz halten soll. Er hat mich vor 4 Wochen angerufen und mich gebeten nach Jakutien zu kommen, ich habe mir dann einfach ein Ticket besorgt und bin hin geflogen, sonst wäre ich erst später im Sommer gekommen. Nachdem mein Vortrag soweit klar ist bin ich beruhigt und kann das morgen locker machen. Das war kurz und schmerzlos, zur Not hilft er mir, das wird aber nicht nötig sein, da ich die Dinge, die mich betreffen ganz gut auf russisch sagen kann.

He called me 4 weeks ago and asked me to come to Yakutia, I just got a ticket and I flew, otherwise I would have come later in the summer. After my talk is clear, I am reassured and can make it tomorrow easily. That was quick and painless, in need he will help me, but that will not be necessary because I can say the things that concern me quite well in Russian.

Zum nächsten Termin habe ich etwas Zeit und so nutzte ich die Möglichkeit in der Mensa zu essen. Für 296 Rubel (8,70 Euro) lasse ich es mir richtig gut gehen mit Salat, Saft, Tee, Sprossen, französischem Schnitzel und Reis.

So, und nun noch eine Stunde bis zum nächsten Termin. Mit dem Bus zum Leninplatz, dann bummeln und als es Zeit ist mit dem Taxi zum jakutischen Musik College. Das ist alles so einfach hier und es macht immer mehr Spaß, du stellst dich einfach an die Straße und hebst die Hand halb hoch, Sekunden später bleibt irgendein Auto stehen du steigst ein und sagst wo du hin willst, ohne Taximeter wird ein Preis vereinbart, der etwas über den Spritkosten für die Fahrt ist, als guter Ausländer legst du freiwillig etwas drauf und bekommst dafür sogar noch Extras die den Preis immer wert sind.

Yakutian Music College

Warja empfängt mich, zuerst bin ich mir nicht sicher, aber dann dämmert es, sie ist eine alte Bekannte von der Gruppe mit Albina, kennengelernt habe wir uns 2004 in Chakasien und später haben wir uns noch mal in Tuva getroffen. Der Termin wurde per Telefon vereinbart, und ganz sicher war ich mit nicht mit wem ich da gesprochen hatte. Nun, ich weiß nicht was ich hier soll und was geschehen wird, ich sollte einfach kommen. Zusammen gehen wir in den großen Vortragsraum und etliche Studenten kommen mit, es werden immer mehr und dann wird mir gesagt dass ich ein Konzert geben werde. Wunderbar! So ist das hier, kein Plan, einfach machen. Alles ist gut, zum Glück habe ich immer alle Instrumente dabei und lege sofort los. Dieses Mal nehme ich mir Zeit um über meine Reisen und das Lernen an sich zu sprechen, die Trancereisen zur Sonne und in das Wasser kommen wie immer bestens an, und auch mein Stück mit der Maultrommel wird begeistert aufgenommen, für mich eine große Ehre, hier im Zentrum der jakutischen Maultrommelkunst. Und dann dreht sich der Spieß und ich bekomme ein Konzert: Zuerst darf die momentan talentierteste junge Musikerin ihre Maultrommelmusik vorführen. Sie hat einen sehr klaren Sound, mit vielen Variationen und großer Sicherheit. Und sie ist groß, sehr groß sogar. Dann darf noch ein Mädchen spielen, ihr Sound ist ganz anders, lange Töne, ruhiger Puls, ich versinke tief in eine Traumwelt der nördlichen Völker und vergesse alles um mich herum. Eine Zauberin! Dann bildet sich eine Gruppe und singt A-Capella ein jakutisches Lied mit den eigenartigen Stimmen und Techniken die es nur hier gibt. Morgen auf der Konferenz werden wir uns wiedersehen, da Warja dort auch eine Vortrag hält und zur Untermauerung ihrer Thesen das halbe College mitbringen wird.

And then the show spins and I get a concert: First, the most talented young musician presented her xomus music. She has a very clear sound, with many variations and great certainty. And she's big, very big even. Then another girl plays, her sound is quite different, long sounds, calm pulse, I sink deep into a dream world of the northern peoples and forget everything around me. A sorceress! Then a group forms and sings A-Capella a jakutian song with the strange voices and techniques which exist only here. Tomorrow at the conference, we will meet again, as Varya will also give a speach and bring half the college to support her thesis.

Government building

Jetzt mache ich mich auf den Weg zum Regierungsgebäude, da Stephan mich dort dem Präsidenten vorstellen will. Die Milizionäre sind nicht so begeistert von meinem Didgeridoo und drängen mich in den Vorraum zum Warten zurück. Ich versuche ihnen zu erklären dass es ein Musikinstrument ist, aber als ich die Stoffhülle öffnen will kommt Panik auf und es ist Schluss mit lustig. Einer hat doch Mut und ich kann ihm vor dem Gebäude ein paar Töne spielen, also doch kein Terrorist, aber rein darf ich trotzdem nicht mehr. Stephan kommt nicht zum vereinbarten Termin, also rufe ich ihn an und er sagt mir dass er ausfällt. Den Spaß war es trotzdem wert.

Now I am on the way to the government building as Stephan wants to introduce me there to the president. The militia officers are not so enthusiastic about my didgeridoo and push me into the vestibule to wait. I try to explain to them that it is a musical instrument, but when I want to open the stuff they get panicked and it is not fun. One has courage and I can play in front of the building a few sounds, so I am not a terrorist, but I can not go inside anymore. Stephan does not come to the agreed date, so I call him and he tells me that he is failing. The fun was still worth it.
