Mein erster Tag in Jakutien - My first day in Yakutia

Nach dem 5 1/2 Stunden Flug von München nach Moskau, der Stadtdurchquerung in Moskau und dem anschließenden 6 1/2 Stunden Flug nach Jakutsk sind doch ein paar Stunden vergangen. Desswegen erst mal ein Pferd am traditionellen Stand als Begrüßung in eine andere Welt, die wir in den folgenden Wochen Stück für Stück kennenlernen werden. Privet!

After the 5 1/2 hours flight from Munich to Moscow, the city crossing in Moscow and the subsequent 6 1/2 hours flight to Yakutsk, a few hours have passed. Therefore a horse at the traditional stand as a welcome into another world, which we will learn in the following weeks piece by piece. Privet!

Ein kurzer Nachtrag zum gestrigen Artikel. Anfang April ist der Winter natürlich längst Vergangenheit und bei frühlingshaften -35 Grad steige ich aus dem Flieger, die Kamera scheint sich erst mal anpassen zu müssen. Man sieht förmlich die Frühlingsschwingungen im Bild :)

A short supplement to yesterday's article. In the beginning of April, the winter is, of course, long past, and when the weather is -35 degrees, I get out of the plane, the camera seems to have to adjust. You can see the spring vibrations in the picture :)

Zuerst verlässt man den Flughafen durch eine einfache Holzwand, ohne jede weitere Kontrolle und ohne Gepäck. Nur um schon mal da zu sein, das Gepäck wird dann in ein paar Minuten in diesem Gebäude ausgeteilt. Als ich endlich meinen Rucksack in die Hände bekomme werde ich doch noch kontrolliert und muß den Gepäckschein vorzeigen und sogar noch sagen was in einer Seitentasche drinn ist. Ich ertaste etwas, sage was ich vermute und dann wird es aufgemacht und überprüft. Eine etwas seltsame Kontrolle dass ich derjenige bin dem es auch wirklich gehört. Inzwischen ist der alte Flughafen durch einen neuen ersetzt worden und die Abläufe sind wie an jedem anderen Flughafen auch.

First you leave the airport through a simple wooden wall, without any further control and without luggage. Just to be there already, the luggage will then be distributed in a few minutes in this building. When I finally get my backpack in the hands I'm still controlled and must show the baggage card and even say what is in a side pocket in it. I feel something, say what I suspect and then it is made up and checked. A slightly odd control that I am the one who is the owner. Meanwhile, the old airport has been replaced by a new one and the procedures are as at any other airport as well.

Derweil stehen die Abholer mit ihren Autos kreutz und quer direkt vor der Gepäckausgabe herum, natürlich mit laufenden Motoren, man will ja die Reisenden nicht in ein kaltes Auto setzten. Von -35 nach +35, das macht 70 Grad Unterschied und der Frühling ist wieder da. Ich hatte ja das Glück im Flugzeug eine Frau kennenzulernen die abgeholt wird. Ich habe mich nicht abholen lassen, da ich ja genausogut mit dem Bus fahren kann. Aber ich schlage die Einladung nicht aus und lasse mich zur Wohnung fahren.

Meanwhile, the collectors with their cars are right across the street, right outside the baggage claim, of course with running engines, you do not want the travelers in a cold car. From -35 to +35, that makes 70 degrees difference and the spring is back. I was lucky enough to get to know a woman in the flight who was picked up. I did not let me pick up, since I can go as well with the bus. But I do not blame the invitation and let them bring me to the apartment.

Nach der herzlichen Begrüßung Tee und etwas Essen muß ich erst mal raus und auf jakutischem Boden stehen. Und eine rauchen, das darf ich nicht in der Wohnung und auch nicht auf dem Balkon.

After the warm welcome we had some tea and food and I have to get out and on yakutian ground. And a smoke, I'm not allowed in the apartment and not on the balcony.

Erste Besonderheit einer Stadt, die 100 Grad Temperaturunterschied im Jahr verkraften muss. Alle Häuser stehen auf Stelzen! Wir befinden uns auf Permafrostgebiet, hier in Jakutsk ist der Boden auf bis etwa 600 Meter Tiefe gefroren.

First special feature of a city that has to cope with 100 degrees of temperature difference a year. All houses stand on stilts! We are in Permafrost area, here in Yakutsk the ground is frozen to about 600 meters deep.

Alle Versorgungsleitungen für Gas, Wasser, Strom, Kanal verlaufen oberirdisch in dicken isolierten Rohren.

All supply lines for gas, water, electricity, sewers run above ground in thick insulated pipes.

Jetzt bin ich unter dem Haus, die Stelzen werden etwa 40 Meter tief im Eis verankert um ein Einsinken wärend des Sommers zu verhindern.

Now I am under the house, the stilts are anchored about 40 meters deep in the ice to prevent a sinking during the summer.

Im Schatten des Hauses lässt es sich aushalten und so geniese ich meine erste Zigarette nach der langen Reise. Unter der Daunenjacke habe ich nur ein T-Shirt an, Handschuhe hatte dabei aber umsonst. Die Kälte ist unmerklich, bei 0.1% Luftfeuchtigkeit auch nicht weiter verwunderlich; die Kälte kann nicht an die Haut dringen. Irgendwie faszinierend!

In the shadow of the house it is endurable and so I enjoy my first cigarette after the long journey. Under the down jacket I have only a T-shirt, gloves I had, but for nothing. The cold is imperceptible, at 0.1% humidity is not surprising; the cold can not penetrate the skin. Somehow fascinating!

Das kleinste Leck an den Leitungen kann sehr schnell zu großen Schäden führen, die sofort beseitigt werden müssen. Die Folgen sind aber bis in den Sommer zu bewundern.

The smallest leak in the pipes can very quickly lead to large damage, which must be eliminated immediately. The consequences are, however, to be admired until the summer.

Mit einem Gruppenbild meiner Gastfamilie verabschiede ich mich für heute und genau an der Stelle geht es morgen weiter, wir brechen jetzt auf zu einem Ausflug in ein Museumsdorf.

With a group picture of my host family I say goodbye for today and exactly on the spot it continues tomorrow, we are now going on a trip to a museum village.
