STEEMIT CULINARY CHALLENGE #26 - Winners & New Theme Announcement - All Welcome for SBD Prizes!

Many thanks to last week's guest judge @jrcornel, who chose for us the theme "Your Favourite Dish".  It certainly inspired a lot of entries, which was brilliant as there were so many tasty dishes for us to drool over!  @jrcornel had a hard time picking the winners though, and said he wished he could pick more than just four!  But alas, not everyone gets to take home a prize... I only hope those who didn't win considered feasting on their delicious meals as a kind of winning!  He did admit that his choice of winners was based on what he fancied eating at the time, and perhaps another day he may have chosen four completely different winners... I guess mood accounts for many of our food choices.  It was really interesting seeing what people like as their favourite foods, and happily it wasn't all greasy or chocolately, but actually very healthy choices in many cases, which pleases me greatly.  Not that there's anything wrong with treats every now and then ;-)  Anyway, well done winners, and well done everyone else for your efforts... Please join us again for the next round, you'll find the theme by scrolling down...

For those of you who have never entered this challenge before - it's very easy, just see below for this week's theme and criteria for entries.  Every week we have a different guest judge and  different theme, so if you fancy some culinary excitement then look no further!  You don't have to be a great cook - all we ask is you try to be creative with your recipes and take beautiful photos of the finished dish as unfortunately we can't taste the entries so you must help us do this with our imaginations!  Original recipes are encouraged, but you may use someone else's recipe as long as you credit the original source.

The guest judge for this week is @samstonehill, living in a tropical Bali paradise with his family, 'travelling the world in search of truth and beauty'.  Needless to say his blog makes for very interesting reading as he covers all kinds of fascinating topics, from his own personal experiences and reflections to wider social issues, and subsequently gets you thinking about things you may not have considered before.  As a health-conscious-planet-conscious man and parent he makes careful choices regarding diet, which is reflected in our theme for this week...

This is a challenging theme and not going to be so easy for those of you who've never made anything like this before.  But we remind ourselves this is the Steemit Culinary Challenge and if you're after easy then you're in the wrong place!  Just get your creative heads on and you'll soon have ideas flowing, as there are many options here despite the restrictions!  If, however, you're stuck for ideas just click on these blued words... There are lots of delicious recipes online you can use (please credit sources to avoid plagiarism) or you can adapt to make it your own.  The main thing is to have fun and enjoy whatever you end up making!

I'd like to know if this raw diet permits cooling/freezing food and what temperature below zero is acceptable?

Although there are some people on raw food diets that don't freeze certain foods because of the way it breaks down food and destroys some nutrients, I'll allow it because this theme is hard enough without removing the option to cool and freeze!!! So yes, feel free, and I won't put any specifics on frozen temperatures either :-) I can't wait to see what you make for this theme!

I'm curious to know what it's going to be myself as well haha, I haven't really experimented with cooking raw vegan meals before so it's probably going to be a little challenging. The reason I asked about freezing is there are a lot of no bake desserts that you have to freeze, so I might do one of them! I haven't set my mind on anything in particular just yet though!

I'm trying to think of a recipe myself too... Tricky!!! Have fun creating though!

most of the pastries in order to stabilize them, they need freezing, If the sweet goes into freezing for a short time does not lose its nutritional value but preserves it. It also stops the microbial and bacterial growth.

Thank you for this helpful information @zkalemiss!

Thanks for the great work everyone. Again, I was saddened I could only choose 4 winners. Every single entry I reviewed I would have loved to try personally, which makes it a winner in my eyes :) Best of luck to everyone in this next week's challenge, you've got a great judge!

Looking forward to judging this awesome competition very much :)

It's a proper shame you can't taste the food in real life as the entries always look super yummy!!!

That is true but I think the first thing we 'taste' with is our eyes & our thoughts. As a filmmaker/photographer I am a very visually stimulated person. And I will most likely not eat anything on the day of judging. That should do the trick nicely :)

That's a very effective way of judging actually, I'm impressed! Though I should warn you I think you're 8 hours ahead of me (Ireland) so by the time you get to judge the entries it will be about 20:00 and you may be pretty hungry by then! Tell you what, you can do the judging on Thursday if you want, as long as I know the winners by 18:00 my time then that'll be grand! :-)

congrats to the winners! :)

At this stage of the contest was a lot of good attempts. Congratulations to all the winners! I'm glad I went to their number. Thanks to @smooth and @sirwinchester for their sponsorship of this challenge and @woman-onthe-wing for good organization!

Thanks very much @yetaras, I appreciate that comment! :-)

this challenge is very difficult but I will find something to participate as a pastry chef!!

Hi @zkalemiss, what a coincidence - I was literally just looking at a very interesting website all about raw food and how to become a gourmet raw pastry chef! I never even knew pastry could be prepared raw! Have you made raw pastry yourself?

no I have never prepared any raw pastry. all I can think is fruits sorbet but it need some heating for the syroup. let me look at it and I will inform you..

The maximum temperature food can be heated for this raw vegan dessert is 118 degrees F/48 degrees C. I hope you can still make something!

I have in mind two recipees that I will do tomorrow :) they don't need any heating. One of them I have done it in the past and I didn't remember. Vegan pastries are not difficult but the ingredients are very expensive.. thats why I have never done vegan pastries in my work..

Ah I see, I didn't realise it's expensive to make. It makes me curious to try it some day! I'm really looking forward to seeing what you decide to make @zkalemiss... I'm delighted to have a pastry chef joining us this week!

if you make it at your house once a week its fine, but me and my teem feed everyday 900 people so the sum is very big..For example if you want to make any cream instead of milk or cream milk which cost 1-2 euro per liter you use nuts and their cost is 6-20 euros per kilo depends what nuts you use.. I will show you the process on my post :) Its is very healthy but VERY expensive

I see... and even more expensive if buying organic produce like nuts! yes, I see it would be too expensive feeding 900 people that! I am now following you and will enjoy looking through your blog! Thank you ;-)

thanks@women-onthe-wing,@jrcornel for your hard work and thanks @smooth,and @sirwinchester again for their always sponsorship of this challenge. I really learned too much from every participant,I think it is the most signifcative..

Always a pleasure to look at your food @helene!

Congrats to the winners !

congrats all the winner...... 👍📸🌮
