One photo every day: Pinetree (214/365)

in #onephotoeveryday7 years ago (edited)

Hello and good night everyone!

Pinetree
Alone, in the middle of the forest.

Camera body: Canon EOS 550D
Lens: EF-S10-18mm ƒ/4.5-5.6 IS STM
Focal length: 10 mm
Aperture: ƒ/6.3
Exposure: 30 s
ISO: Dual-ISO 100+200

All those other trees around and no-one to talk to.

Man, it is hard to focus this lens.

I originally got the ultrawide Canon EFS 10-18 mm to do some real estate photography, but it turned out this lens isn't suitable, as it doesn't want to cooperate. When I pre-set the focus to something and set it to manual focus to remote trigger it, it starts focusing by itself.

Now when I try to shoot in near darkness I can't focus on anything because I can't see anything. (Without an external light source that is. And tonight, I didn't bring my external portable floodlight which I don't even have, with me.)

Oh well. I eventually managed to get a near satisfactory focus out of the thing. Surprisingly it took me only 4 tries this time. I've been grinding my teeth over the lens quite a few times already. Maybe I'm starting to get the hang of it, eventually.

I hope you like the picture. I'll be going to bed because I'm still feeling the sinusoids be kinda bad. Gotta flush me nose first though.

See you again tomorrow, with another cool shot! :)

One great reason to own an older prime lens is the hard-stop on the focus ring at infinity. I've purchased cheap second-hand lenses for this purpose. Of course, I'm speaking from the Nikon world where the lens mount has remained the same for years. I am assuming such things are available for Canon

Right you are. I like working with old primes for that exact reason.

The problem with older lenses, I think lies within the fact that an ultra-wide prime for a crop sensor camera is a bit more difficult to find from those, since they were pretty much all designed for 35mm film cameras. (I know I might need to upgrade to full-frame already.)

Oh, and the older Canon lenses come with an obsolete FD mount. I'm not sure if there's an adaptor for that, but I have successfully used an m42 adaptor for those old lenses that came with an old Fujica ST605N I got from my father some years back. They are pretty nice lenses; Super Carenar 35mm, Fujinon 55mm & Super Carenar 135mm. Got some great photos with them too! :)

Ah, so I thought Canon had changed mounts... yes, and when I was shooting crop sensor Nikon I couldn't find anything wider than my 18-55 kit, not that I could afford in any case, and not a prime.

Rumors have it that Nikon will finally replace the F mount lens with a new line for full frame mirrorless... which I would really want. I guess Nikon would come out with an adaptor to let me keep all my current glass!?!

Should have mentioned... I like your photo. I love silhouettes

Would be so awesome to have that printed out onto the ceiling of your bed!
lay in bed and look at the sky and trees!

Want it? I could print it out and send it to you if you like! :)

im moving soon but at some point im planning to make a stealth camper and i might take you up on that offer. it is an amazing picture and i could see it on the celing of a camper so when laying in bet i can stare at the sky. would blend in well with wood trim too.
In like 4-6 months you might have me hitting you up to get a copy.
:D

I like tone of this picture, it kinda makes me think those vallila fabric prints (btw, definitly would buy it if this came as curtain!) when looking the pic you almost can feel the bed of moss when lying in forest and looking up on the sky.

As a curtain... hmm... That might be an idea worth some investigating. :) Thank you!

Wow! The photo doesn't look like you had trouble shooting it. All I see is the beauty of the photo.

The Pine trees

Thanks :)

Your words make most of the frustration I felt from shooting the photo disappear.

Oh.. Thank God and thank you...

@gamer00,
Actually I like to watch the sky in this way and trees also! One day you will watch my photography :D This is pretty amazing! let's say outstanding photography! I think it's the good way to describe it!

Cheers~

This very creative ... ilike the color of sky in dark...it is scary like in horror movies...nice caption.

Great shot! And brave shot? In the middle of the forest at night, that requires dedication. This photo can fit to a horror movie. It ends with a death of a main character in a forest, camera goes up slowly and the end..

It's little bit late this time, I can sleep because I see the photo :) Very fascinating photo again! Thank you.
Good night!

Sorry for keeping you up late. I'll try to be timely on the next one. :) Good night!

Just joking :) thanks for your kind comment , have a nice day!

Alone in the dark! I love going out into a forest when it's dark... Although it can get a little creepy when you start hearing random noises and you can't see shit :D

The picture is wonderful. There's something eerie to it. Sorry to hear about the sinusoids. I have the same problem and I have to unstuck my nose every night with Oxymetazoline. Although I use the pediatric one since it unstucks my nose with a lesser dosage.
