Canon EOS 500D laying on my table in front of me. Trying to remember how to use it. Have a feeling it's already pretty old, maybe should buy a new one for my photo sessions? What do you think?

When you eventually get the hang of it, you might want to give Magic Lantern a try. It'll rejuvenate your camera a few years, as it'll expand the function set to a more modern one. :)
Buy a new one when you are certain your 500D is not adequate anymore. First consider batteries, you may need to buy new ones. And if you can get your hands on some quality glass that's more important than upgrading the body right away!
If only I could understand anything about that magic lantern.
I don't even remember how to focus normally :D

I like the photo and not only for the sushi :D, but there is something that catches my attention the sharpness of the photo looks different from others you have take. Did you use a different camera?
Btw is the second photo that I see with the same effect on the edge, is it a later edition or is it an effect of the camera?
This was taken on my mobile phone... It's an added filter, I couldn't resist. ;)

Yes that would be right. :)
We always have to work within the boundaries and capabilities of our tools. But that doesn't mean we have to shoot piss poor photos when we exchange equipment for the less capable. :) It's a mindset really, and I've only recently started employing it on both my DSLR and smartphone photography.

It's Japanese #Sushi is not it ? Well done what you picture
This sushi restaurant seemed to be run by the Chinese instead of Japanese. They had a lunch buffet for 9.50€, that included several different sushi and also many Chinese warm dishes.
the black and white really change the look of any picture, It looks good, it hurts that I've never eaten sush i:C, If I know that I came to this life if with my 22 years of age I still have not eaten suchi- T-T
Don't worry, I was well into my forties when I first had sushi.
Hahaha I have always asked myself, what is its flavor? ,one of these days later, maybe in my birthday]-I will give that to myself :)
