Welcome to the 2nd Edition of the Weekly Buzz

What an incredible two weeks it has been! If you’ve been following the #newbieresteemday hashtag, you already know the exciting happenings with the Newbie Resteem Initiative. In case you haven’t, I will happily recap the awesome accomplishments of the initiative and the people behind it.

Before I go further, I would like to dedicate a moment to THANK OUR SPONSORS and HONORARY MEMBERS @abh12345 and @coolguy123.

Both are Stewards of the #stewardsofgondor and amazing individuals on their own. Please visit their blogs to show your support. I won’t go too much into their stories because I plan on “poking” some fun with them sometime in the future. After all, they are members of our team.

Their support to our community is immeasurable. Through them, we can support our newbies community in more ways possible. We can explore different avenues of supporting one another as we continue to grow. Personally, I am very honored they chose our Newbie Resteem community to support. Every team member should be very proud because it is with the effort of every one of us in this community that made us stand out and be noticed by Asher and Coolguy123. For our community to be selected, as their way to pay it forward for the generosity they too received from Mr. FullTimeGeek (add the @), is truly a credit to our mission and the team members volunteering their time to grow and strengthen this community.

It has been 30 days since @mudcat36 and @davemccoy founded the Newbie Resteem Initiative. Since the last weekly buzz, the member count grew from 27 to 51.

YES, 51 MEMBERS.

Some of our members have moved up in rank and have exceeded the Reputation “45” mark we started off with for newbies. Others, new themselves, have joined our community. We are a community made up of a hodgepodge of talents and are all contributing to help others in the best way they can. Some members have left to pursue their interests, and that’s okay. Remember, we are here to support each other through stages of growth on Steemit. Veteran members stay because they believe in and support the initiative. New members join because they want to help. Personally, I stay and help with what I can because we’re just an awesome bunch of good-hearted Steemians.

I look forward to seeing our member count increasing in the next Weekly Buzz!

When I started the Weekly Buzz, I made the first “Member of the Week” pick because I needed the sympathy points for having to read through Dave’s blog.

Going forward, the “Member of the Week” will be an unanimous decision by the ABC’s of Curation Committee from @newbieresteemday (learn about us later). The member of the week will be selected to ‘poke some fun’. Just some light-hearted fun to let our members know WE SEE YOU and very happy you are part of the team.

I will be highlighting the ‘Member of the Week’ on here, but @amariespeaks has graciously volunteered to write a ‘Saturday Spotlight’ post where you get to learn more about our member. What are their interests? What great post have they written that you should read? I mean, come on, don’t you want to know our member’s deep, dark secrets? Here’s your chance to find out all the juicy details. Check out @amariespeak’s very first Saturday Nite Spotlight.

Member of the Week

Aren’t you a tad bit curious about @mudcat36, one of the founders of this very initiative we are supporting? We all know Dave. Who doesn’t know @davemccoy? Many new members may not know @mudcat36. Why not? Where is he? Oh, he’s taking care of the small stuff. You know, like developing the website for our initative, working through ICO legalities, just the little every day things.

So who is the “elusive” @mudcat36? I have to give credit to @amariespeaks for her detective work. She wasn’t kidding when she said she had to scroll and scroll and scroll. In the last weekly buzz I had the pleasure of reading through Dave’s blog. This week @amariespeaks had the pleasure of scrolling through @mudcat36's blog. What a powerhouse pair our founders! Scrolling and Reading. The things we do for our initiative!

After a bit of time spent scrolling, and no hidden skeletons found (darn), my respect for mudcat36 grew more and more. He is one smart cookie! His interests vary from education, to art and history, and to the science of the mind (explains his background in psychology). He has some incredibly written posts that, in my opinion, should have received more exposure. He also plays the organ. I took my laptop volume off mute just to listen to it. Must say, it’s pretty darn good. Go explore churches and villages in his part of the UK in a Steemit Meet Up.

We all know there are initiatives that come and go on Steemit. Some initiatives are started with a true intention of helping others. Others are gimmicks (😲) as a get-rich scheme. Here is a comment made by @mudcat36 on our initiative when he first came up with the idea.

3. Enter the Best Post contest by the @deliberator. Submit a link only. Don’t um, do what I did on his last contest. I edited and hid the trail so no need to go snooping!

4. Encourage newbies to participate in the Steemit Comment Challenge, a contest hosted by our partner @danielsaori . Guess who the guest judge is this time? Our very own @amariespeaks!

5. Conspiracy theory enthusiasts? Join @mudcat36’s Conspiracy Theory Writing Contest. Newbie participants are guaranteed an upvote and resteem.

6. Join @jorlauski in the Cryto Cage Match. Pick a cryptocurrency and guess the value by the deadline

7. Guess the fiat price of $3 SBD in seven days! Check out @doctorcrypto’s contest. All newbies will receive bonus points.

8. Love trivial-based contests? Gene created the @randomgames account for some fun and games. You can win Steem or SBD. Check out the Crossword Puzzle contest.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

1. Asher (@abh12345), a Steward of the #stewardsofgondor, took the time to learn about our Newbie Resteem community. He must have liked our mission and values 😉 because he delegated 280 SP to @davemccoy, now enabling Dave to use the voting slider and spread his votes amongst the community. Thank you Asher, for noticing us newbies and for stopping by my blog now and then to show your support (I notice 😊).

2. Raghavendra (@coolguy123), another Steward of the #stewardsofgondor, learned about our initiative from Asher and GoldenDawne. He too stopped by to find out how he could help our community. He connected with Dave and they came up with the plan to create the @newbieresteemday curation trail account. Raghavendra delegated 200 SP to push the newbieresteemday account off the ground. Thank you Raghavendra, for giving us another means of supporting our newbies community. Also, for making time to listen to our ‘chat’ discussion on Discord.

3. Creation of the @newbieresteemday curation trail account. The account is created with the intention of supporting newbies with a Reputation score of 45 or below that spend time on their posts but may go unnoticed. Ideally, we would like to support newbie authors that use our hashtag #newbieresteemday. As we are still fairly new, not many people have heard of our initiative. We do go searching for good content, support them, and let them know to use our hashtag going forward. We will fine-tune the process as we learn and grow.

   We have also started resteeming good posts that use our hashtag #newbieresteemday if their reputation is above 45. These posts are only resteemed and not voted on with the curation trail.

4. Meet the ABC’s of Curation team! Who are the curating team behind the @newbieresteemday account? For now, the volunteers are @amariespeaks, @beeyou, and @charisma777. We are all new to curation and learning the ABC’s of curating. The name is fitting in a more obvious way, if you hadn’t guess already Check out @amariespeaks intro to our new logo.

5. One of the top 10 picks by the @newbieresteemday account got selected by curie. How awesome is that?! Learn how to make vegan brownies.

6. Four members of our #newbieresteemday initiative made in onto Asher’s Curation Leagues. There are two sets of leagues, League 1 for maximizing returns with curation. Both @amariespeaks and @bashadow made it onto that league. Remember, @amariespeaks is a member of the ABC’s of Curation. Three of our members, @bashadow, @davemccoy, and myself made it onto the second community curation excellence league. This league looks at engagement within the community.

   Guess who just joined the leagues and out-comment everyone? YES, our very own @davemccoy took 1st place in League 2.

7. Partnering continues with @danielsaori on the weekly game called Steemit Comment Challenge. Check out the partnership.

8. Parnership continues with @goldendawne on the ‘Dear Dawne’ post where she provides mentorship and advice to newbies and members. Check out the partnership.

9. Buzzing Around Mentoring with @goldendawne. She discovered @myscrible through the #newbieresteemday tag and selected her to mentor for the next couple of months.

10. Celebrate with @davemccoy as he celebrates his 55th continuous day on Steemit with words of thanks.

WHERE WE ARE HEADING

Final Note to Members:

If you read my distribution post, you would understand why I will never send out that many transactions again!

Revision of SBD distribution:
The SBD earnings from the weekly buzz will remain split 50/50 between the initiative and the members. Half will be distributed to @davemccoy or @mudcat36 for Initiative funding, to be used as deemed appropriately.

The other half will remain in a “Members” fund held by me. It may be distributed monthly to the team or for contests supporting our members.
