Manaia : The Sacred Island of Heir
Heir is the Northern most island in Manaia, and regarded by both Sobanites and Kuzians as a sacred location - though for entirely different reasons.
The island is currently under the control of the Atras of North Shevarah. however, Sobanite pilgrims are permitted passage to Heir from Sherishemi during the spring, provided they can afford to pay the hefty fee demanded by the Atras for the luxury.
Passage to Heir does not grant one full access to the island, as the majority of Heir is currently deemed a restricted zone and is guarded more securely than the Atras' Palace in Keren.
The Sobanites believe the island to be sacred because according to The Libra, their Holy Book, the son of Hehu - Ollivus, was carried to Manaia from Heaven upon the back of the Angel Helian, landing first in Heir.
The Kuzians on the other hand, hold the island in the highest esteem because according to their own Holy Book - The Aklatan, Heir is the location at which their great prophet Rhamasi ascended to heaven after the completion of his great works.
While none of the religious claims about Heir can be substantiated, there is undoubtedly something special about the island. The wischia cactus, which is sought by many and fetches a handsome price at most markets, grows nowhere in the world but on Heir. Though seeds have been harvested and planted in many locations throughout Manaia, for unknown reasons, the species will not grow anywhere but on the island.
War has been brought to many locations in Shevarah by the Magna of Euchao, who has stated that he will withdraw his soldiers when Keepership of the island is signed back over to the Sobanite church, asserting it as their rightful Holy land. However, it is a common suspicion among both Euchaons and Shevarans that the war is primarily about the wischia cactus and profits, rather than religion.
