Manaia : Firee and the Haunted Nightswood
Firee(fee-reh) is a remote city on the coast of the Wetlands, with an estimated population of 40,000.
The city is surrounded on one side by the harshest waters in Manaia, and by a thick and reportedly enchanted forest on the other.
The most powerful magicians in the whole of Manaia are rumoured to reside in Firee, in castles formed of wood, mud and vines that were erected using powerful magic spells.
The Fireean forest surrounding the city is often called the Nightswood, and is considered a perilous place for any to venture. The trees are clumped so close to one another, and their branches and foliage so thick, that even at the height of day it appears as night from almost anywhere in the immensely wide forest. The lower portions of the trees are dead due to the lack of sunlight, and strange creatures are reported to lurk in the eternal shadows. None who are seen entering the Nightswood ever return.
Fear of the forest surrounding Firee, and of the waters on the coast which are plagued with catastrophic waves and a perpetual thunderstorm, keep most away from the city of Firee.
Under the fourth moon of each new year, children are known to go missing from popular Festival of Forgiveness in Anakai. It is believed by some that the creatures of the Nightswood are taking them, or luring them to the enchanted forest by other means.

I am attempting to write this in such a way that any readers have their imaginations evoked and start to develop stories of their own within their minds. So, I appreciate this comment very much, but I cannot answer the question for you. Perhaps this is the case, or perhaps something entirely different is occurring.
