Manaia : Introduction to the Wetlands
The North Eastern continent of Manaia is known as the Wetlands. The population of the Wetlands is estimated to be anywhere between 14 to 22 million.
There are thousands of tribes dispersed across the continent, following different leaders and laws, though the majority of the tribes follow some form of Amanism - a religious doctrine passed down through word of mouth that exalts water as the presence of the Creator on Manaia. For this reason the tribes tend to fear venturing too far West into the Shevarah desert, where they believe the Creator's presence has long since departed.
The tribes occupying the southern regions of the Wetlands are known for pirating and raiding of Euchaon supply vessels and carriages.
In the central part of the continent, tribes war for control of the city of Gavaho, which is believed by many in the Wetlands to be where the Creator rested after conjuring the land and seas of Manaia, and where Her presence remains strongest to this day.
Further East, a more anarchistic way of life has endured, with an anarcho-communist civilisation residing in the Eastern most island of Kazemi. There is no concept and therefore no word for "property" within the native language of Kazemi.
Magic is both believed and commonly practised among the many tribes of the Wetlands. In the North Eastern city of Firee, the most powerful magicians on Manaia are said to reside, and all manners of mythical creatures are reported to dwell in the Firean forest surrounding the city.
Methusa and Mango are Shevaran and Euchaon provinces, respectively. Both heavily fortified with large city walls and considered mysterious by most in the Wetlands who are unfamiliar with such works of stone by man.
A ubiquitous legend, though differing in minor regards from tribe to tribe, exists within the Wetlands. The legend and prophecy speaks to the coming of the Agwa - a great magician who will be the embodiment of nature itself, and who will have the power to call upon all the elements and the creatures of the forests and the seas to restore Manaia to its original glory, paving the way for the return of the Creator.
