Manaia : Dayre - The City of Bones
Dayre is located at the edge of the Shevarah desert and is often referred to throughout Manaia as the City of Bones. The population of approximately 450,000 tends to grow exponentially during the season of the sun, when pilgrims from all over Shevarah arrive in the hundreds of thousands.
The largest battle in documented history took place in Dayre, a battle that ultimately led to the fall of the Fenian Empire. Over a million Manaians fell in the battle. In an underground complex of tunnels, hundreds of thousands of skulls of the fallen adorn the walls and ceilings.
Pilgrim followers of the Kuzu religion journey to Dayre each anu to pay their respects to the dead mass of Shevarans, whose sacrifices played a pivotal role in the growth of the Kuzu religion, which at the time of the ancient battle was being oppressed most violently.
A relatively large Sobanite community resides in present day Dayre, and does so peacefully and harmoniously with the larger Kuzu community who reside there. Though the same cannot be said for other cities in Shevarah, which typically harbour a sentiment of distrust and friction between the two opposing faith's communities.
Dayre is the only city in Shevarah that is not under the jurisdiction of either the Atras of the North or the Luner of the South. A small council of leaders, amounting of members of many differing religions, govern the city.
Though the leaders of Dayre are well respected and thought by most to be men and women of great compassion, rumours persist outside of Dayre that it was through blackmail or some type of extortion that the council were able to escape the authority of their King and become an independent city freed from the burden of paying taxes to the crown.
Dayre is also home to several of the wealthiest and most revered Decideists across Sheverah, Euchao and the Wetlands, with one recently joining the city's council.
Your world building is really earnest and well thought out :) I really like these entries !
Thanks. It's crazy to think it but I feel like I'm not even 1% of the way through. There's so much more to do including the creation of a few languages. So I appreciate your appreciation of a world, that to me, doesn't even seem to have taken form yet.
