Prizes

Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent.

Victor Hugo

steemit_open_mic_week_59.png

It is very important to say the words "Steemit Open Mic Week 59" at the beginning of your recorded video and as the first words of your post title. Posts without that at the beginning of the title are hard to find in the feed and we may miss your post. Posts without those words spoken in the beginning of your live, recorded video do not qualify for prizes.

If your song is an original song by you it is very important you put the word "original" in the title and "originalmusic" as the second tag of your post

Here is an example of a correctly titled post.

steemit open mic submission example.png

These requirements make it easier for judges and curators to find your posts and reward you for original songs. Ignoring these requirements only hurt your chances of earning rewards.

  • Once on this post so the payouts for the winners will make this contest self-supporting. We're very grateful @pfunk is helping out right now, but helping this post with upvotes gives more rewards to the winners and the contest will be self-supporting.

  • And vote a 2nd time on the link of your favorite entry's post found in the comments below. This will help support all the musicians that entered, even if they didn't win the contest.

  • In fact, some entries earned very well, even though they didn't win. And that's good because musicians need to eat.

Steemit Open Mic Process

Keeping it short and sweet, here is the flow of considerations for the Steemit Open Mic contest:-

  • Need to promote community participation in the spirit of Steemit Open Mic night.

  • So.. Steemit Open Mic submissions in comments, community voting and reblogging are encouraged.

  • However, we need to avoid public vote abuse and keep a certain standard for Steemit Open Mic night.

  • So.. community voting as the first filter, before internal voting.
  • Another problem: late submissions are usually disadvantaged as they get less attention on the contest post.
  • So.. we've tried to mitigate such a problem by including unique votes of Steemit Open Mic submissions in their own blog posts.
  • IT IS CRUCIAL WHEN YOU RECORD YOUR VIDEO THAT YOU SAY "STEEMIT OPEN MIC WEEK 59" AT THE BEGINNING OF YOUR VIDEO We're looking for real live performances for this contest. Some people have posted old videos from YouTube and it's difficult to verify that it's really them performing. In the future they will be disqualified from the contest.

  • If you want a chance to earn the prize, make a new video and say STEEMIT OPEN MIC Week 59 at the start of it.

  • You can sing acapella if you don't play an instrument or sing to a recording if you want and still enter Open Mic.

How To Enter Steemit Open Mic Night

  • In a well lit quiet room, use your cell phone to record your performance. See recording tips here and here

  • SAY THE WORDS "STEEMIT OPEN MIC WEEK 59" AT THE BEGINNING OF YOUR VIDEO

  • Upload your performance to YouTube or other video hosting site.

  • Create a post on your own Steemit account pasting the URL of your uploaded video.

  • IMPORTANT: THE FIRST WORDS IN YOUR POST MUST READ: STEEMIT OPEN MIC WEEK 59 before any other text in the title.

For example: STEEMIT Open Mic Week 59 - Hold That Tiger by @cheetabot

  • You can title your post anything you want just be sure the first words say STEEMIT OPEN MIC WEEK 59.

  • VERY IMPORTANT: THE FIRST TAG ON YOUR POST MUST BE openmic All one word. No spaces.

New Music Category Communities

Music Category communities are coming together on Steemit and if you're a music lover, please show support and join in the fun. Here are a few new places to find great music.

Suggestion: openmic must be the first tag to enter open mic, but adding other music-related tags (such as music, music-trail) may help your post get more attention and perhaps even get curated by those music curators.

If your song is an original song, add orginalmusic as your 2nd tag. This will help curators know it is an original song which currently pays a Steem bonus to you.

Thank you all for the participation!

Thank you for the positive support from the Steemit community and special thanks to @kevinwong for his guidance, encouragement and support and @verbal-d for writing a song that inspired the idea and @pfunk for helping and supporting Open Mic.

Another gorgeous song. Thank you for joining our #openmic, and raising the bar higher, so we can all aspire to next-level greatness. Once again, you inspire me, sister.

I just wow mam.

Oh my this was so magical! This voice of yours is most beautiful!! Resteemed!

Great work.

OMG! That was super hot! Great song jaybird!

Great performance. You poured your heart into this one.

thx brotha indeed i did.

WOW this is f***n awesome sir.

Hello @luzcypher ! , this is my song for this week , thanks once again for setting this space up for us . Hope you like it !

Brilliant. I admire your sophisticated guitar playing, your pleasant singing, and your beautiful songwriting. Altogether it's a bright revelation of what a star you are.

Thank you very much for your kind words my friend :) . I'm so glad you like my music . Cheers !

great song sir.

thank you very much my friend :)

Beautiful my friend, such sweet tones in your voice.

thank you very much ! im glad you liked this song :) , cheers!

Thank you @nateb :) , cheers!

Quick, somebody get these folks a record deal! This sound is sweet enough for the masses.

This week I wrote a fun little song called Mediocre.

Here is the link to my post, where I link to my other recent originals. I'd love it if you'd check 'em out! Thanks!

I FEEEEEEL this.

Lovely song @chrisroberts. I love the twang of your voice, sounds awesome

LOL Thanks! I don't actually even talk like that. The words just always come out that way when I write country songs. I guess I'm a redneck at heart.

Haha well it's great! You've got talent there so maybe you should keep going with it! I'd like to hear your other stuff too in that case

Classic! Funny–sure, and childlike–yeah, and at the same time there's a real sophistication in it. First, the message feels like a positive affirmation: "I am enough," or "I accept myself exactly as I am." It honestly feels like a very meaningful song to me. Reminds me of the sentimental songs of Randy Newman, and the kiddie verses of They Might Be Giants, with the folkiness of Matt The Electrician... Ooh, and I admire your videography, with that rich vignette and scratchy old-timey film effect, along with the tumbleweed lamp and ukulele I see in the background. This is a standout #openmic entry, in my opinion.

That's really cool, I appreciate your feedback! You seem to get where I'm coming from. It's true. Comparisons are hard. The idea of mediocrity comes from comparing to others. I may have a really healthy ego and a good level of confidence, but to be completely honest, this song came out of one of my less confident days. I'm extremely new to this songwriting game, but so far I like to wrap some heavy issues in cute and clever lyrics. I'm looking forward to expanding my horizons in @meno's upcoming songwriting competition.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment, and I'm so glad you enjoyed my song!

I love your song sir..

Lovely. And squeezing the word "dissertation" into any uke song deserves an upvote!

Thanks! I'm glad you noticed. I like when I can fit in the occasional 5 dollar word.

This was thoroughly entertaining. Thanks.

I've entered kind of late the last few weeks.
So I thought I'd make up for my tardiness this week by removing the veneer of coolness and appearing over eager. :)

For this weeks openmic I go back to the days of my youth.
This is my cover of a song by The Cascades.
It's called "Rhythm of The Rain."

Thanks for listening.

Tom

Thanks for entering again. Love it.

Thank you for this great opportunity!

I like the rythm of this song, and you sang it well, good luck!

wow sir you nailed it!! I love the rhythm too as what sir @long888 said., good luck to all of us sir..

You've got a great classic voice @tombalistreli! Good job!

Touch of old skool class!!

Ahhh. I love that melody - right up there with Raindrops keep fallin on my head. Good work!

Wow, you sound really good singing this.

Thank you! I really appreciate your comment.

what a lovely cover again sir..

This is lovely @donatello! I wish I could play guitar like this!

It's very kind of you. I saw you playing the guitar and you can play it nicely. Your voice is lovely.

Nice. well done!

Hey @g10a, it’s so good to have you here on Open-Mic, and your original performance this week is real good! However, I was wondering if you would kindly refrain from using that advertising tag with your comments. It’s rather distracting for me, and it really takes away from the natural flow of the comment threads here on Open-Mic. Thank you, brother... Much love, and good luck this week!

thank you so much sir I hope I can still use the guitar for the following weeks., I'm really sorry for that one sir.

No worries, brother... Thank you, again! I sure hope you can use that guitar again too... Hey, keep your original song-writing powder dry because there may be a special song-writers contest coming up at some point in the near future whereby the winner will receive a brand new acoustic guitar - with a hard case and all! Keep an eye out for it - because if you can write thematic songs really well - there's certainly no one that I can think of that would like to win that guitar more than you... All the best, my friend!

WOW that would be great sir, inform me in advance sir please hehehe so I can prepare my lyrics. thematic songs, I might find it difficult to compose the group of words to build a song, I hope I can participate and can write the song according with the theme. God Bless you and your family sir.

Sounds really good.

thank you sir luzy..

@g10a!! This is stunning! I'm sorry I cannot understand your language but your singing and guitar playing are amazing

thanks a lot mam, I'm sorry for that mam, in my original post I included the translation. Hope next week I can render an english one.

I had a look!! Very good 😊

Great stuff!

Here's my flagship drum entry! Pre-cleared that moving my Steemit Open Mic #59 sign is enough confirmation that it's me since I can't record my vocals during the recording process.

Please note that you'll need headphones or speakers with good BASS to hear everything properly.

This is a cover of Red Hot Chili Peppers' Dani California on my electronic kit. It's not easy to play with my neighbors, so this is the best I can do for now.

I start to improvise around 2:45 since playing covers note for note isn't as fun for me. Hope you enjoy!

https://steemit.com/openmic/@steemmatt/steemit-open-mic-week-59-drum-cover-of-red-hot-chili-peppers-dani-california

That sounds really tight.

That was super fun to watch! That's how I learned to play the harmonica, playing with whatever was on the radio.

Great song choice, too!

Wow love your cover mam, this is amazing..
