Chapter 25: Digging Deeper

The Faceless Man had sent his disciples out to the area where they had faced off against Cameron. They worked quickly to clear the scene of any evidence that there was an altercation.

Dead bodies were bagged up into sealable morgue bags, traces of Blood was removed and the area was swept clean to ensure no evidence of their existence would be found. There was no time to repair the hole left after The Boxer had exploded from the pipe down below and out onto the surface, however The Faceless Man didn’t seem concerned about this. His main goal was to get rid of any trace evidence. To rid the scene of the grey Blood that pumped through their veins.

He was smiling within himself. Although it had not been a complete victory for him, he felt they had done well. The area had been effectively cleared and he also had a little prize to take back with him to his lair.

Later that day Miss McKay and her agents have been carefully combing the area for more than an hour when they finally seemed to get a breakthrough.

Right at the edge of the pipe, where the storm water drain peered out towards the open ocean, they saw some traces of what appeared to be bloodied hand marks being dragged across the surface. They took some swabs and carefully placed them in a sealable bag.

Miss McKay’s heart was racing. All she could think of was that it belonged to Joel.

They started heading back and Miss McKay pulled out her UV light, to see if she might spot any other possible evidence. There were occasional fluorescence light ups however these could be caused by general contamination in the pipe.

"Nothing" Miss McKay thought.

As they carried on, eventually passing by the hole heading up to the surface, Miss McKay radioed the Agent who’d secured the area above.

Do you have your UV light with you? Over
Yes Ma’am Over
Scan the area and let me know if you find anything, Over and out.

A few minutes later the agent radioed back.

Miss McKay, come in, come in!
I’m here, what is it, Over.
You had better come see this. I’m not too sure what I’m looking at here, Over.
What is…
By the amount of evidence that is lighting up it looks like a bloodbath. The thing though, our UV lights don’t pick up blood, Over.
What do you mean? Over.
Well, Miss McKay, it shows clear evidence as it would when someone washed a crime scene of evidence. The... the patterns are similar however we use chemicals to pick up on blood. Something doesn't look right, Over.
Stay put, we’re on our way, Over.
Miss McKay, I believe I’ve found what appear to be shattered bits of bone here now, Over.
Alright, thank you, we’re coming, over and out!

Agent 186 looked over at Miss McKay, slightly puzzled, as they started rushing back “What is it, Miss McKay? It sounds very strange” he questioned.

“I’m not too sure agent” replied Miss McKay “but I do believe I’ve seen something very similar.”
