The Satchmo P.I. - Living Amongst Monsters – Chapter 8
Chapter 8: On the Hunt

The Faceless Man had sent 5 of his men to go after Stella. He knew she was still there since he had a lookout watching the lab since early that morning. He only sent those that he knew would blend in well with the crowds.
“Not the strongest” he thought “however they will be able to comfortably complete this mission.” He was glad that Stella was there so late. That part of town quietened down from mid-afternoon already so that suited him well. “Perfect” he thought.
Flashes of Stella were going through Cameron’s mind. He was running so fast now he managed to comfortably jump over a car that came to a dead stop right in front of him. He could sense some people in the area looking at him in awe however he didn’t care. The only thing on his mind now was to get to Stella as fast as he can.
Cameron could feel his blood pumping through his body, especially his legs. It felt as if his legs were growing bigger and stronger. “Two more blocks” he thought to himself. Catherine, on the other hand, was still 3 and a half blocks away. She tried her best however she wasn’t able to catch up to Cameron. “He is fast” she thought. Catherine was concerned though. She hasn’t seen any of this happening before and didn’t know what to expect. That was when she saw it.
In her vision Catherine saw that there were 3 men that came into the lab and one standing at the door. Someone had simply kicked the door in. Stella just heard a loud “Bang” and saw the door to her lab flying across the room. She got such a fright she simply froze and stared at the 3 men approaching her. Two seconds later she started screaming “Stop! What are you doing here?” She tried to get away but one man grabbed her by the wrist so hard that she squirmed with pain. Another man came up to them, clasped her head firmly in his hands and the last thing Stella saw was his short, thick, pitch black beard. Stella was put to sleep. “Shit!” Catherine thought.
As Cameron came around the corner he saw 2 men exiting the lab, another approaching them from the other side of the road and two more walking in the other direction. That was when he saw it. They’ve got Stella. “Stop!” he yelled.
Three of the men turned towards him and the other two started running away with Stella in hand.
Cameron could feel the anger build up in his mind however he was extremely focused, focused on those that were standing in his way. “Close enough” he thought.
He teleported to right in front of his first target and smashed his elbow straight into his face. It was as if time had slowed down and he saw the man’s teeth flying from his mouth followed by what looked like splatters of grey. Cameron already had his eyes on his next two targets. He was fuming and just wanted to get past them so he could reach Stella. Before Cameron could react one man was right in front of him and tackled him to the ground. Cameron could hear how they went skidding across the tar. He managed to get his arm around his neck mid slide and used the motion to flip him over his head and landed in a fully mounted position right on top of his attacker. Without thinking he smashed down at his face, right, left, right and then someone kicked Cameron flat in the face. Cameron summersaulted backwards through the air from the force of the blow, landed on his hands and knees just to get up in a flash, ready to attack with full force again.
At that moment Catherine went flying past him and grabbed the attacker by his throat, as he was getting ready to have another go at Cameron. She clasped her hand around his windpipe, pushed her other hand against his face and ripped back. The grey blood started squirting from his throat and bubbling out of his mouth as he fell to his knees. Cameron could hear him gargling as he was trying to draw air into his lungs.
By this time Cameron was already heading towards the other attacker and had smashed his face in so hard he could hear the bones crack. Cameron looked up and saw the third man running off. As he wanted to start giving chase Catherine grabbed him by the arm.
“Wait!” she yelled. “He’ll kill her if we carry on!”
“What the fuck Catherine!” Cameron was breathing heavily. “He sent me a message now. He told me to stop or he’ll kill her” she said.
“He can also see like you can!” Cameron was yelling at Catherine now “Why didn’t you tell me? He’s got Stella now!”
“I didn’t anticipate it.” Catherine fired back, however she remained calm “I thought that if anything, they will come looking for me or you so that’s where my focus was.”
There were police sirens approaching in the back ground. Cameron looked back and saw the other man had already got up and disappeared. “We have to go Cameron. We’ll find her. I promise” Catherine tried to gently pull at his arm.
“Don’t you fucking touch me!” he yelled. Cameron knew that she was right though. There were still some people around and someone would have seen what just happened. He started running at a steady pace and made his way up an alley. Catherine followed suit however kept her distance. “I’ll have to explain more to him” she thought.
