Chapter 14: On The Run

Warning – Strong language!

Cameron and Catherine didn’t want to cause the officers any harm.

“Cameron, you’re going to have to teleport up behind them then I’ll disarm the two in the front” Catherine whispered.

The old gentleman who had brought them their coffee earlier on saw something was about to happen and scurried on back into the kitchen behind the counter.

As the two officers that spotted them stood by the doorway, ready to enter the building, the third officer came up behind them and pointed his firearm at point blank range against the one officer’s head.

“Watch out! Stop” Cameron shouted however it was too late. The third officer, in quick succession, fired two shots ‘Bang, bang!” The two officers collapsed to the ground. He pointed his weapon again to fire off a third shot at the one officer however Cameron had already teleported himself right up in front him, grabbed the firearm by the muzzle and smashed his elbow into his right cheekbone. He could hear the bones cracking however it hardly seemed to have had any impact on him as he fired off two more shots, just missing Cameron’s leg.

The Officer grabbed Cameron’s face and smashed his head back against the building so hard the diner’s windows rattled.

Catherine had made her way out and grabbed him by the throat seemingly in an attempt to rip his throat out as she had managed previously. She could feel his muscles tense up so much that it felt like grabbing onto a steel pipe. He grabbed her arm and punched towards her belly. Catherine tried to block however the force with which he punched was far too powerful and sent her flying back through the diner door.

Cameron still felt a little dazed however he attacked again, tackling the Officer to the ground. Both of them went sliding across the tarmac and ended up in the middle of the road from the force. He still had his firearm firmly clasped in his hand and as he pointed it at Cameron’s ribs Catherine was back and kicked his hand so hard that the firearm went smashing into the building across the road.

The Officer flung Cameron off of him and he went sprawling across the road. Sirens started approaching in the background and only Catherine seemed to notice it. She could see in her vision it was some of The Faceless Man’s men working as police officers. She saw one of the men wasn’t an officer though, he was a Captain. It was Captain Moss.

As Cameron was struggling against the Officer Catherine retrieved the firearm. Cameron seemed to be overpowered however he was able to teleport very well and the Officer struggled to get a hold of him. Cameron ended up behind him and punched as hard as he could into the back of his neck. He stumbled forward and Catherine fired off three shots, all of them hitting their target. Almost instantly patches of his uniform started changing color from a light grey to a dark grey as the blood started seeping out of his wounds.

He wanted to charge at Catherine however Cameron had already picked up a pipe lying next to the building and smashed it straight down at his skull. He collapsed onto the ground and that’s when Cameron saw the blue and red lights approaching down the road.

“Cameron, we have to go, now!” Catherine shouted. She knew they would be overpowered by the four men in the vehicle and the attacker was busy getting up onto all fours. Cameron kicked him with all his might into his rib cage which sent him spinning sideways across the road and into the building on the other side.

“Bang… bang, bang, bang!” Shots were already being fired at them as they made their way off of the road.

“This way!” Cameron shouted as he led them towards an alleyway. More shots were being fired at them as they made their way towards an alleyway.

“Catherine, that building over there” It was a single story building that Cameron had assessed earlier just in case they needed to get away like they had to right now. They could hear the police vehicle come to a screeching halt at the entry of the alley.

“I’ll fling you up there. It’s too high for you to teleport up there!” Cameron shouted as they reached the building. With that he spotted the men approaching down the alley and flung Catherine up with all his might. She grabbed the side of the building and in one quick motion flung the rest of her body up.

The men started firing shots while quickly approaching them .Cameron teleported himself straight up and onto the building.

They made their way across a few low lying buildings until they reached another alleyway which wasn’t linked to the road they’d come from. They could still hear the men shouting orders to each other however seemed to have lost them. Catherine and Cameron knew they had to get away from this area completely.

“Fuck” Cameron said, bent over, resting his hands on his knees “That guy was strong.”

“Yes Cameron. He also had the ability to completely block out any pain” Catherine replied, still catching her breath as well.

“Yeah, no shit.”

“We’re going to have to improve your abilities Cameron. You’re not strong enough yet.”

“I thought that’s why we did the training?” Cameron asked.

“Yes, that was part of it. It’s time for the next step.”

“What do you mean next step?” Cameron asked quizzically.

"We need to get to the upper part of town" Catherine said looking out towards the higher lying buildings. "I'll explain it to you when we get there but right now, we need to get out of here. There are more men coming."
