The Satchmo P.I. - Living Amongst Monsters – Chapter 9
Chapter 9: The Massacre
Warning: Strong language!
It was 3am when he gave the order. His troops started moving out towards the building a few blocks away. It was in an old abandoned industrial area and one of the buildings housed a large group of vagrants.
The Faceless Man had observed this building for a while. He knew this would be the perfect start for his mass executions. “Lost souls living at the edge of the world” he thought, smiling. He figured that there won’t be too much investigation that will go into this however it will quench his thirst for blood and fear a little more. He grew somewhat tired of the smaller kills and wanted more blood to be shed. “This will bring me another step closer to my goal. To become a legend and clean the world of its filth” he said in his low grumbling voice.
His men moved quietly and quickly through the streets. Within 2 minutes they reached their destination. Two of them stood outside at the only entry point while the rest moved into the building. The smell of fires keeping the residents warm was thick in the air. There were some small broken windows lining the tops of the walls where the smoke could escape from.
Some of his troops had a particular task laid out before them however most were just there to kill. There were three levels and they worked in three small groups moving towards their respective positions. As soon as the top level’s group was in position the massacre would begin! It wasn’t long before the screams started. The killing has begun.
Limbs were ripped off, heads crushed and people were being flung into walls. Some of the vagrants tried to fight back in vain. The power and execution simply destroyed any chances they had. Within a few minutes it was over. All the while The Faceless Man was watching through his disciples eyes, smiling at his creation.
Two men and a young woman were taken from the building to bring back to him. The fear in their eyes was daunting before the black bearded man put them all to sleep.
The building was soaked in fuel, level by level and gas bottles placed all around the floors. Some of them slightly opened. Then they set the fuel alight and it burst into flames. Soon the bottles started exploding inside the building as the group left, quickly heading back to their liar.
Catherine was sleeping in an old motel room with Cameron occupying the room next door. She woke up gasping and then the tears immediately started filling her eyes. As tough as she was she could see what just happened. Bodies lay strewn across the floor, to many for her to count. The Faceless Man was becoming better at hiding his actions and she only picked up on this once they started pouring fuel all over the building. She tried to re-focus her thoughts, still a little dazed at the sight.
Catherine saw The Faceless Man wielding his arms around like a magician, laughing and smiling. She tried to focus on those he controlled. That was when she saw they had taken some of the people from the building. Her mind flashed forward, a few minutes into the future. She saw a familiar building, then, it was gone.
“Shit!” Catherine shouted. The Faceless Man had blocked her again. He was becoming better as time passed with blocking Catherine out. She knew though that he will have to be directly focused on her in order to achieve that. For some reason, she at least found solace in that thought. She decided to go over to Cameron.
Catherine went to his room and banged on the door. As he opened the door she could see he was tired. He hasn’t been sleeping well. He was hopeful though and thought she might have picked up on some information about where Stella is.
“What is it Catherine? Did you see her?” he asked.
“No Cameron, I’m sorry. I’ve seen something terrible and don’t worry, it’s not about Stella. We need to talk.”
