Chapter 7 – Training with Catherine
Warning: Strong language!
It was before sunrise when Catherine and Cameron had left. Stella was still fast asleep and didn’t even hear them go.
“Oh shit!” Stella woke up gasping. She scrambled to find her phone “Ten past eight, shit!” Stella wanted to get to the lab early that day. She still had many tests to get through and oversleeping definitely didn’t help her cause. She scurried out of bed, rinsed her face and brushed her teeth with her finger covered in some toothpaste before rushing off to the lab.
Cameron and Catherine were busy training in an old abandoned warehouse. Catherine knew this one well and there were never issues with vagrants here since it was still quite well secured. She has brought Cameron here before as well so he was a little familiar with the place. Old scaffolding, broken wooden floors, bricks and dust made up a large part of the building.
Catherine was impressed with how much Cameron’s strength and speed had improved. He was however still far off from where he needed to be.
“Cameron, teleporting is quite common among our kind. Some can do it over a few steps while with others it looks more like a glitch. The distance you covered will definitely be helpful however there are many other possibilities and I can only tell you to try what I’ve seen.” Catherine was busy talking to Cameron mid fight. He was standing a few steps away when suddenly Catherine teleported right up in front of him and flew with her knee into the centre of his belly. Cameron went skidding sideways over the dust covered floor. Flipping his legs back over his head he landed dead on his feet again. “Nice distraction Catherine” he said. Cameron was enjoying his new found strength and speed. He darted in towards Catherine but she literally already saw what his intention was. As Cameron came in towards her he teleported so he ended up right behind Catherine and swung his hand back around trying to connect her head. Catherine was already bent down and kicked back at his knee, causing him to stagger.
“You must start focusing more on blocking me out” she said. “Your teleports are becoming very accurate now however I’ve been able to see most of your moves.”
Catherine kicked a brick lying on the floor and it went flying straight towards Cameron’s face. He punched with his palm and it smashed into pieces. Amidst the debris and dust he lunged forward and connected Catherine flat in the centre of her chest. She went flying backwards and straight into a pillar.
“Catherine!” he shouted “Are you ok?” Within a split second he was there however Catherine already stood behind him. “That was much better” she said. “I’m stronger than you think Cameron. You hurt me but not quite enough yet.”
They had been training for hours. It was already heading towards dawn when Catherine had a vision. “Oh no” she said “No, he must have blocked me!” Catherine shouted out. “What’s going on?” Cameron demanded.
“They’re heading towards the lab” she said. “He must have seen something.” Catherine knew the Faceless Man had the occasional vision. She wasn’t expecting this though. She was more focused on the training and trying to see if he was tracking her. This is how she’s been able to evade him all this time. She wasn’t expecting this and he caught her totally off guard. “Who’s heading towards the lab?” Cameron demanded. “The Faceless Man has sent his men to get Stella.”
Without a second thought Cameron turned around and started running out the warehouse. “Cameron, wait!” Catherine shouted “You’re not ready!”
He didn’t heed her calls. The only thing that was on his mind now was to get to Stella as fast as he can. She was about 10 blocks away. “Shit!” Catherine shouted. She started running after Cameron who was already out of sight
