Miss McKay had given him the order.

“Trail Captain Moss… I know he’s dirty.”

“Sure thing Elizabeth” he said. “If he’s involved with those types of crimes it’ll be a piece of cake.”

“Ha, for you it will be” Miss McKay said. “For me or anyone else I know, he covers his tracks far too well.”

Joel chuckled a little “You’re far too kind to me.”

“No, you’re far too good for anyone to pick up on you. Heck, back when we trained everyone always tried to spot you. No one ever could. That just doesn’t happen.”

“Alright Elizabeth, that’s enough cheerleading from you for one day” Joel said raising his hands in objection. “Let me get onto it and don’t worry, I’ll have something for you before the deadline. After that, you owe me that dinner date that we’ve cancelled twice already.”

Elizabeth blushed ever so slightly but quickly recovered “Well, Eric, if I remember correctly you cancelled the first time around.”

“Hence the reason I said we” Joel said smiling.

“Yes, yes, okay Joel. I promise you once I’m done with this case we’ll go on that date.”

“That sounds great!” Joel said. “Now, seriously though, I need to get going and assist my poor damsel with her investigation.”

“Haha Joel. You’re always full of silly little comments” she said smiling.

“What would life be without a little silliness?”

With that Joel got up and left the coffee shop. He had his preferences and one of those was to always meet in public.

Some of his colleagues thought he was a little strange for adopting this method but he quickly proved them wrong after they found out that there was a mole within the SIA.

Information had been leaked which could only have been done internally. A case involving some of the wealthiest men in Satchmo was destroyed. It is still believed that had this not happened, the town would be in a much healthier state today.

Joel was the one that warned a handful of people beforehand however no one seemed to pay any interest to him at that stage. They all saw him as a rookie that’s trying too hard.

The only one that took him seriously was Elizabeth McKay. She assisted Joel with his silent investigation however the time and support they had available was simply not enough. By the time they figured out that some high tech, untraceable technology had been used to tap certain lines and systems, it was too late. The damage had been done.

Joel asked her to keep his input on the low down. He didn’t want to be known as the one that blew the case wide open so they devised a plan that would give recognition to Agent 189 with the assistance of Elizabeth.

Agent 189 was their superior at the time and Elizabeth gently nudged him in the right direction. She knew he was a good agent and would be deserving of such an accolade therefore both Joel and Elizabeth decided that it would be a positive move for all parties involved.

Elizabeth still remembered telling Joel after the infiltration had been busted right open.

“Joel, you truly live up to your nickname… The Ghosts’ Shadow.”
