STOLEN LIVES (Circus) - Original poetry

This poem was inspired by a tragedy that took place in Romania, where a teenager was kidnapped and then killed. I was shocked to see how the way the system handled the case.

I was also outraged to see to what extinct the police and authorities failed to save the life of a brave 15 years old girl who called 112 ( local 911) three times after being kidnapped, beaten and raped!!!

Being short staffed and insufficiently trained is only one of the problems that the state institutions are faced with. Due to these "malfunctions" the young girl ended up murdered. This tragedy stirred a big scandal on the Romanian political scene where fingers are pointed in a failed attempt to identify those responsible for this tragedy.

STOLEN LIVES (Circus)

When butterflies' wings no longer flutter,
an angel's call doesn't seem to matter;
no one cares enough to save a life,
everyone is caught up into his own strife.

World's worse crimes are taking place:
kidnap, abuse, torture, rape,
murder - all, right here, in your face;
they insist the country's safe.

Once the crime makes the news,
the wolf cries first: "rights and abuse";
he deals the cards and pulls the strings,
lack of proof, thus no jail or wrings.

Later on, the villain confesses to his crimes
the mourning families experience hard times,
public servants' arrogance and disdain
reach incredible heights, bring more pain.

The story repeats, a pattern is formed
dispatch lacks training but that's the norm,
investigations are stalled, lies are told,
victim's portrayed as a runaway doll.

Horrified mothers hold on to their child,
petrified fathers wish they had a gun,
feeling their blood and thoughts run wild,
asking themselves were it all had begun.

A whole nation weeps an angel's death,
unable to see where lies the truth,
the real culprit for her last breath;
justice is not a low-hanging fruit.

The rabbit hole goes real deep coz
the system is rigged, laws have flaws,
no name is brand, being illiterate is great
and convicts make the rules for fools.

Dark humour and sarcasm are elite's tools,
election day, they all forgot to vote;
are they to blame for thinking remote,
swapping kindness for ridicules?

Don't let her sordid faith be all in vain,
don't think the forces will save you from the rain!
Protection, safety - they are in your hands,
embrace change or this circus never ends!
