The mountains I've climbed - Poem
Inspired by a prompt given by #TheMightyPoets, I came up with the poem below. Their prompt was :The mountains I've climbed. I am sharing it here because it speaks about my Lyme related struggles. It will be probably included in my next poetry collection which was supposed to be released these days, but has been delayed due to some personal problems.
Lyme is an invisible illness that most people don't know much about, don't understand or simply dismiss its existence.
taught me that in times
of need and great despair,
nothing is right, just or fair!
while your lungs gasps for air,
you’ll crumble and fall
in the bedroom, living room
or the hall.
No one will be there for you,
no one at all!
to gather the bricks, the mortar
and glue yourself back on!
with incredible speed and a terrible sound,
you’ll shiver and cry, you’ll twitch and torn,
you’ll wish you hadn’t been born.
you’ll picture yourself having a thousand deaths,
you’ll experience pains, pins, shame and regrets,
you’ll know sadness, anxiety and mistrust,
you’ll feel forgotten, left to rot, turned to dust.
you’ll wish that you hadn’t grown,
you’ll look for ways to live and go on,
to avoid rain and cold, to protect your bones!
you'll read all about spirochetes and hormones,
cause Lyme offers a hell of a ride
by the end of it, you’ll be a warrior worldwide.
Here are some of my poems:
YOU ARE NOT ALONE
ALL BOUT LOVE
A TALE OF A MINNOW AND A WHALE
LONG WAY DOWN 1
LONG WAY DOWN 2
SPIDER QUEEN
MINA'S EULOGY
THE CIRCLE OF LIFE
YOU KNOW IT ALL
CONFESSION OF A HUSBAND
BROKEN DREAM
THE RETURN OF A HERX
CLOSE THE DOORS
IT IS LOVE
BROKEN SOUL
FREEDOM
SPEECHLESS
CHECKOUT POINT
TEENAGE YEARS
A CHILD'S MIND
PINK
PAIN
DARE
LOST
PAINS
Knowing so many with Lyme disease, my cousin among them, this is a very touching piece that tears at the seams of me. Truth in an injustice.
Your writing inspires me to want to do more.

Thanks, @dswigle! So many people are touched by Lyme in the states and all over the world. So many of them go under the radar, being misdiagnosed until this illness wreaks havoc into their bodies. The fact that you want to do more is admirable! Trust me, your cousin and friends are lucky to have you around.
It is so widespread now and yet, so little is known and the public remains uneducated unless touched by the hand of it.
May God bless you and give your body comfort and peace.
This poem is very moving. At the same time it highlights what you go through and helps people understand the severity of Lyme disease.
Many blessings to you ~
Thanks, @crosheille! Have a wonderful day!
You’re welcome!
Thanks you too ~ 😊
Beautiful!!! 😍
Thank you, Nick! ;0)
Last month I went to hike over hills underneath a huge mountain range. My gf was teasing me how ticks are gonna attack me as soon as I step out. And as soon as I stepped out, and took the anti-tick spray out of the car trunk, a huuuuuuuge thick tick was walking over my ankle.
I hope that huge tick did not bite you! It's better to wear long pants and light color socks when you go hiking, thus you can have a better view of what's crawling on your feet; but I imagine you already knew that.
He didn't :D I noticed him on time and shook him off. That dirty scumbag >:(
Thank you for the advice, never thought how much color could affect your observation and in the end, your protection from ticks. <3
A touching and powerful poem
Thanks for the read!
My pleasure 👍😎👍

This kindof scares me right now - we are living in a forest now and we have an insane amount of ticks on us every day! Both My son and his father showed the signs of Lyme disease, but both got cured by antibiotics after seeing the red circle. around the bite. I just wait for my turn.
But then someone comes and tells me that what they give here in Denmark is not enough to kill the disease, and I am not sure the doctor really knew.. i really hope my son is cured, but maybe I should get a check..
But it is really common on this island, so I hope they know what they are dealing with, the doctors.... A friend of mine's mother had it 3 times, and she is not living in a forest with 3-7 bites a day....!
The problem with Lyme (Borrelia and the co-infections that come with it) is that a single round of antibiotics is not effective. Yes, not all ticks carry the bacteria, I agree. But Borrelia is one of the smartest bacterias ever, as it becomes immune to the meds. It shields itself in a protective film that anbiotics can't break.
Also, not all people will develop the red bull's eye rash! Those who don't get it, may never think of being infected, thus they will not have those two weeks of antibiotics, which can help if administrated right after the bite.
If it wasn't confusing enough, some people will develop symptoms only at a later stage when the disease has spread. Usually that happens when their immunity system is lower than usual.
As far as I know there is no cure for Lyme. You can only keep some of the symptoms under control with diet, exercise and either meds or herbal protocols.
Living in an tick endemic area like yours is very challenging. I hope your son and his dad will feel better. Be well!
Meaningful post and I treasure it.
