Fred Frith (born 1949) - Jazz multi-instrumentalist, composer, and improvisor

My today contribution to Jazz Friday is probably the hardest part for my listeners. I start with a documentary about the music professor Fred Frith, in which many of his musical stations appear. To describe him is impossible, because he is the outstanding artist without a suitable drawer, in which one could put him. We'll hear wonderfully simple songs, but in the next instant a massacre of sounds can take place, it's never made easy for the listener, and so the hours go by with his music without realizing what else is coming. For years he was a regular musican at the Moers New Jazz Festival and I was able to experience and love many of his groups.

Mein heutiger Beitrag für den Jazz Freitag ist wohl der bisher schwierigste Teil für meine Hörer. Ich stelle an den Anfang einen Dokumentarfilm über den Musikprofessor Fred Frith, in dem viele seiner musikalischen Stationen auftauchen. Ihn zu beschreiben ist unmöglich, ist er doch der herausragende Künstler ohne passende Schublade, in die man ihn stecken könnte. Wir werden wunderbar einfache Songs hören, aber im nächsten Augenblick kann ein Massaker der Töne stattfinden, niemals wird es dem Hörer einfach gemacht, und so vergehen die Stunden mit seiner Musik ohne zu ahnen was noch alles kommt. Über Jahre war er ein Stammgast auf dem Moers New Jazz Festival und ich konnte vieler seiner Gruppen erleben und lieben lernen.
