Jazz Friday #5 "Dexter Gordon"

in #jazzfriday6 years ago (edited)

Dexter Gordon - Jazz saxophonist (1923-1990)

In the early years, Dexter Gordon was the main character in the development of Hardbob, a harder version than the usual Bebob. After several prison stays in the 1950's, due to heroin addiction, he moved to Denmark in the 60's and stayed there for 14 years. His tone on the saxophone is strong and smooth, but always melodious. From his 40 years of career I have selected 4 pieces from different times:

Lady Bird (1964)

Full concert in Denmark (1967)

Body and Soul (1970)

Laura (1979)

Perfect to sit, relax drink a cup of coffe and read some interesting articles. I will let this playing while reading some blogs hehe.

I'm 20, and most people from my generation don't value this music, in my opinion, this is too complicated for them. I'm a rock fan, and without jazz, rock wouldn't be the same, Jazz and blues were the base to create a lot of music genres. Thanks for sharing good music :)

You are right @ralk98 there are a lot of people that don't value this marvelous music. But luckily we do.

Woo! The great Dex, beautiful article @schamangerbert. Amaizing tone on the Tenor, I will always love his version of Charlie Parker's Confirmation on his album "Daddy Plays the Horn (1955)".
