Five minute free write - literally

Two small pffts as his own gun finally spoke. Nowhere near as dramatic as the newcomers assault, it was effective. The man gasped, hand falling from his face to his chest, and looked at him. Really looked at him. Eye to eye.

And then he sat down. Or rather, stumbled to one side, off the table, and into a chair. Still, the look of disbelief playing across his face. Blood now soaking the front of his suit through is shirt.

The action finally at an end he again checked his breast pocket.

Still there. Approaching the newcomer cautiously he saw that the other was still breathing, if only barely. The light of life still burning.

Why? was the simple question, he asked looking down at the dying man.

Why? Why?

You're on that side, I'm on this side. We know what you took, and why you took it. We never thought you would stoop to such a level but...' the mans words trailed away as life finally fled his body.

Then the door slammed open, 3 more men burst through, guns drawn and ready.

With a small smile he wondered to himself, 'how many people are gunning for me tonight?'

Get it? Gunning for him? They're literally gunning for him? Wait...was that a proper use of the prompt, or just one big lead up to a horrible pun? I don't want to shoot myself in the foot or anything with all the amazing people who follow and read my work. Metaphorically or literally. :)

I kept this story up though three prompts now.

Which is kind of cool. As a writer I'm trying to figure out so many things right now, and one of them is longer narratives. How do you initiate action, how do you continue it, finish it, and give it meaning throughout. Can you string it together with another story to create an even longer chain...even if they don't seem to be related? Could I introduce zombies into the scene? Maybe somehow link it to the sci-fi stuff pulling a Blade Runner? Play around with time travel and have it related to the samurai from way back? I mean, the more I think about it the more I realize how the possibilities are endless. The fun part is figuring and creating the bridge.

Gotta keep this short. So much more to do this morning and so little time :)
