Movie Review: Shaft 2019
Hey my fellow movie buffs
Its been a while since I've dropped a movie review on you guys since there hasn't been anything worth watching, but I recently booted up my Netflix to see if I could play anything while I work and came across the latest reboot of Shaft. You know Hollywood has no ideas for original content so its all about rebooting anything remotely popular and carrying it though on nostalgia.
It pays, so that's why they keep doing it I suppose. So what is the movie about and is it worth watching?

What is Shaft about?
The movie centres around John Shaft Jr. an FBI cyber-security expert whose friend dies in suspicious circumstances. He takes it upon himself to uncover the truth behind his best friend's untimely death, he needs an education that only his dad can provide. Absent throughout his childhood, the legendary John Shaft agrees to help his son navigate the heroin-infested underbelly of Harlem.
As the story gets deeper, we find that Shaft is locked and loaded Shaft has his score to settle -- both professional and personal.
What I thought of Shaft
The storyline is nothing to write home about its probably one of the most unoriginal plots you can get so yeah its how the rehash it and layer the characters and the motivations. Unfortunately, the character development is almost non-existent; you don't even feel like anyone is building any relationship or engaging the audience with any stake in the fate of the characters.
The movie is more of an action-comedy, and that's where its best parts are, in the comedy with Samuel Globbling up his scenes with his charisma and delivery. He sells the character well along with Regina his love interest but other than that everyone else is stale and unmemorable.
Jessie T. Usher is probably the most unlikeable character, and his comedic scenes are teenage banter at best, some slapstick Nickelodeon style jokes and situation comedy. Reminds me of the things we used to laugh at in grade school.
My rating for Shaft
The characters are written really poorly, and apart from a few laughs, this movie will disappear into the bargain bin real soon. It wasn't the greatest watch, and I'll give it 4 Lawrence Fishburne wannabees out of 10
Have your say
Holla at me in the comments! All my commenters I will now refer to as Jessie. Jessie is a good friend of mine, but Jessies got a girl, and I want to make her mine.
So have at it my Jessies! If you don't have something to comment, simply comment "I am a Jessie."

Just finished watching Shaft myself, and it is Samuel L Jackson who makes it worth watching... He is so good that even the most boring movie gets good with him. But if I had to pick, I would rather watch The Hitman's Bodyguard with Jackson and Ryan Reynolds, same style, but way better!

LOL I complete agree if he wasn’t in this movie I would have probably given it a 2 and it would have been a complete waste of time! Hitmans bodyguard is so much better! I still think Samuel needs to take on a few more serious roles now but I guess is Marvel contract keeps him tied down to what he can select in terms of roles
