Movie Review: Triple Frontier

Hey movie fans

Due to load shedding, I haven't had much chance to check out movies of late. I recently saw the trailer for Triple Frontier on Youtube and since its international break for football, I could use that time to check out the film.

The trailer goes balls deep on star power with Ben Affleck, Oscar Issac, Charlie Hunnam, Garrett Hedlund and Pedro Pascal which probably used most of this movie's budget. The movie is a kind of hybrid between an Oceans style heist movie, a marine movie and one of those South American Narcos movies that have become so popular of late.

The premise and the cast looked good so It looked like something worth checking out.

What is Triple Frontier About?

The story centres around a group of former Special Forces operatives who have failed to acclimatise to normal life and are down on their luck. They decide to reunite and plan a heist in a sparsely populated multi-border zone of South America.

For the first time in their prestigious careers, these unsung heroes undertake this dangerous mission for themselves instead of the country. But when events take an unexpected turn and threaten to spiral out of control, their skills, their loyalties, and their morals are tested to a breaking point in an epic battle for survival.

What thought of Triple Frontier

The movie starts out slow and character introduction and building was just enough for you to feel these characters have some real motive. I do feel the movie would benefit from going deeper into the bond these 5 men have and the history between them as well as their various expertise.

Where this movie does excel is in the thrill factor, this is an action movie before anything else, the action is intense and consistent, sometimes it's obvious and sometimes confusing, but never less entertaining.

The visuals and terrain also add to the thrill of the movie as our heroes travel through the depths of the uncharted jungles of South America, makes for a plaform for all sorts of dangers and obsticles along the way.

My rating for Triple Frontier

I loved the concept of the movie, looking at how circumstances and greed, especially for money can make you justify actions you would not otherwise. The stories premise and casting were great, but the slow pace and lack of anything really exciting in the screenplay (except for a few scenes), didn't hold my interest where it should've been.

The 125 min length was too long especially because of all the unnecessary dialogue instead of being used for better character builidng or the could have cut down to 90 mins with a faster pace, the long dragged out story would have been more interesting and exciting.

The directing and cinematography was decent, but I feel the director failed to direct his cast properly to get the much-needed emotions from them, especially during the third act when the characters nobility, freindships, motivations and endurance is tested to the max.

Solid effort, but a missed opportunity for something great, I have to give this movie 7 big bags of stolen drug money out of 10
