New 50-word story prompt, plus an announcement

in fiftywords •  last month

It's time for the 50-word challenge weekly summary and launch of a new prompt. I'll provide links to the full collection of 50-word stories from last week and highlight a few excellent gems. But first... an announcement.

Announcement!

I am on vacation for a week in a tiny remote town in California that has no internet. (Actually, it does, in one spot, outside a little community center that supports the town's youth. Which is great because I intended to post this before traveling, and with one thing and another, I wasn't able to, so here I am sitting on a rough wooden bench amidst golden hills dotted with cows. I digress.)

The writing must go on! So. I will provide a prompt in this post, but I may be very delayed in responding to story submissions and posting the new prompt next week. Thank you in advance for your patience!

That warms my heart! Thank you, @negativer. Whenever I come to our family cabin on the Lost Coast, I am reminded of my technology addiction. And with only occasional access, I am reminded that the world does not come to an end without it.

·
·

I admit those same thoughts were in my head as I imposed my own partial ban on tech last week when I was in Denver. I had decent internet access, but chose not to utilize it for anything other than work-related fires (and checking the weather). The week off from the assumption that you have to be connected 24/7 is refreshing and does rearrange one's priorities a bit.

·

You are on point.
I occasionally declare some days 'tech Sabbath' to be able to focus on other important things in life, spending time with family and enjoying the gentle embrace of nature.
I always come out such periods fully energised and refreshed with new enthusiasm to face all of life's hurdles.

It’s a good reminder!

Thank you very much for feeding this weekly challenge. It is very good also to know the work of other steemians. And I also wish you happy holidays @jayna. Best regards

Hello again!
Here is my entry. Hope you'll enjoy it!

Thanks for the highlight, @jayna, and enjoy your vacation!

·

Thanks so much, @therosepatch!

Happy holidays @jayna when you come back here is my submission 'Forest Adventure'

Her mouth quivered, tears pooled at its corners -- I thought, “why couldn’t she have been a better person?” Then I turned, and said goodbye to my mother for the last time. Passing through a threshold, her thick lips, unwanted hair, and dark black shaded skin was all I left behind.

·

Thanks for participating in the 50-word challenge. Is this your first entry? You'll want to post your challenge entries on your own blog and provide the link here. (Just for future reference.) Welcome to the challenge!

Thanks for joining the 50-word challenge. Very nice story!

By the way, this is a “challenge,” vs. a “contest.” It’s an opportunity for participants to try to write a complete and compelling story in 50 words. There are no winners; I just highlight a few great stories each week. 😊

·
·

My pleasure. Noted and edited :)

Enjoy your time off! I love these stories. There are so many amazing stories with so few words, I am in awe!

·

Me too. Isn’t it fun? 😊

Thank you for the mention. I have to say it has been a long time since I have written for fun. This story flowed nicely with the hardest part being the manual counting as I wrote to stay within the word limit. Found my way here just in time through @thinknzombie who's post definitely reflects a truer picture of how a story is produced.

·

Congrats on getting back to writing for fun! You clearly have a voice worth exploring.

I hope you have fun on your trip :D Here's my submission:

Hope you are enjoying the much-needed break. I managed to finish my story a bit faster this week by starting more quickly--it still got rest between edits.

Great story, @aksounder!

Hi Fifty Worders. Here is my story for this week: https://steemit.com/fiction/@jayna/livingon-oqgfulb0ha.

Hi @jayna and Clan,

It has been a crazy week. But I managed to write a little description of one of my loves: the mountain. I hope you'll like it. 🙂

Well, here's my entry, Unconditional. It's once again based on one of my works in progress, but a different one this time.

I think time goes to the same place as socks that disappear in the laundry! :-)

·

It's not too late until I post a new prompt! :-)

You're fine. And I'm running especially late this week due to my travels.

·

Hi @iamthegray. You've supplied the link to your Pixabay image. Please swap in your actual post link! :-)
