Fifty Words Challenge || Futile Efforts
My entry to the Fifty words challenge hosted by an amazing lady, @jayna, is built around the given prompt, break.
The story I imagined is about a hard working man who faces the powers of nature. He is getting tired of so much work, of so many futile efforts. But he keeps doing it as this is the only thing he knows: working land.
The sun was almost gone. It was a hot day with a clear blue sky.
He spent hours trying to resuscitate the burnt crops but without rain nothing can be done. Looking disappointed at the scorched rose bushes, he headed towards the little green cottage. He really needed a break.

The photo I used shows some of my roses. They were destroyed by rain, ironic isn't it? 🙂

Farming is a tough life. It can reap rewards to those who work hard, but there's nothing easy about it.. When crops fail like this it must be soul-destroying..
In Ireland in 1845, our Potato crop failed and over that year and the few that followed out population went from just over 8 million to 6.5million as many people died and the rest left Ireland on coffin ships..
Yes, this activity carries so many emotions...joy, sorrow, pain, happiness. Farmers are among the bravest people and we should be grateful to them. It is especially hard when an entire nation depend on a single specie crop.
Very nice, @roxy-cat. What a sad story. I'm sure this is happening more and more throughout the world, with climate change!
Thank you, @jayna. I think this is a general issue and, sadly, we made it happen. Climate change is our fault and, at the same time, our burden.
