History:

The Balmain Brewing Company was originally founded in the 1970's and was well known for its Balmain Bock. In 2010 the Balmain Brewing Company relaunched and now produces a range of high quality craft beer. Three mates dreamed up the plan while drinking over the years in each of Balmain’s 17 pubs, and hearing about the Balmain Brewery of last century and the 55 pubs of the 1800’s! To date several beers have been launched – Balmain Pale Ale, Balmain Pilsner, Balmain Bock and Balmain Apple Cider.

Drinkers Review:

Balmain Original Bock is German dark lager, brewed to be full and rich. This brew has a huge malt profile that hits you right from the start with strong roasted grains, caramel and toast aromas with muted scents of dark dried fruits. It looks similar to coca-cola when poured into a glass, apart from the head retention. The taste of this dark lager was beautifully sweet, almost sticky in its flavour with a medium carbonation. I love dark beers and this dark lager is no exception. Pair it with rich roasted meats such as pork or beef, Mexican dishes or a cheeseboard with strong, flavourful cheeses and sweet fruits. Its sweetness combined with just enough bitterness to cleanse the palate makes this an enjoyable beer and one I recommend trying if you like to dabble in the dark brews!
