Brewed by:

Black Duck Brewery, Port Macquarie, Australia

Alcohol Content:

4.0%

Beer Type:

Irish Ale

History:

On a recent trip to Port Macquarie, NSW, I visited this little craft brewery located in a shed in an industrial estate. The brewery houses the bar and tasting area at the front of the shed, surrounded by the working brewery just on the other side of the bar. Opened in 2012, Black Duck offers 10 brews, and if you are there at the right time of year, you can sample and purchase their 'Once a Year' strong ale. A small, inviting brewery where you can purchase a 'paddle' of the 8 beers on tap and sample each one. My suggestion is to catch a taxi or have a designated driver as the selection is very nice and you cannot just stop at one.

Drinkers Review:

After receiving some feedback from @buzzbeergeek for a craft beer with a twist, I decided to review this particular small craft brewery from NSW in Australia.

The brewers notes for this particular brew are:
Made for the wandering Paddy yearning for home, we have used water as pure as the driven snow, and the subtle aroma of noble UK Fuggle hops set the scene of rolling fields of green and fences made of stone. There is a caramel sweet undertone and a hint of dark roast that give this beer a delicious flavour profile. Enjoy with a hearty stew or a mountain of Colcannon. Source

I tried this brew on tap at the brewery and purchased some bottles to take home. On tap it had an aroma of sweet caramel malt with moderate strength roasted undertones and tasted moderately sweet with hints of smoke. It is a smooth ale with a pleasing malt sweetness on the finish. One of the easiest drinking beers tasted at the brewery and from the bottle, it did not disappoint either. If you are in this region and get a chance to visit the brewery or pick up a bottle or two, take a moment to sample and enjoy this very nice beer from a small craft brewer.

Great. Thanks for sharing. I'm starting to follow you

Thanks. Plenty of beer posts and other interesting posts to come.

Excellent - Always support your local brewers - great to see the little guys getting a go - Haven't tried it myself, I'm guessing limited supply but interesting, plus you have to like a bar that has a guy with a blue singlet standing in the middle of it.

Thanks for the mention and it looks delicious. I hope we get a sample as a weekly special at the local pub. I like how some breweries make seasonal. Something to look forward to ehole year round
