American Pale Ale

History:

The Matilda Bay Brewing Company is Australia's first true craft brewery. Beginning operations in 1984 in Perth, Western Australia, the brewery quickly grew and found great commercial success, eventually being purchased by Carlton and United Breweries in 1990. Under the giant brewer, the company opened other brewery locations across the country to expand their operations.
The original owners of the Matilda Bay Brewing Company went on to open the Little Creatures brewery in 2005.

Drinkers Review:

This beer pours a slightly cloudy pale golden color with about 1cm of thick and creamy white head that doesn't disappear in a hurry. The taste is very hoppy, but not overly bitter and there's also some sweetness there before the very dry finish appears.

Overall it's a decent mass produced APA, with some interesting flavours and a bit of complexity to make it a good entry into the craft beer world. It is an easy drinking beer and hovers between craft beers and the macros. If you like the taste of hops, then you will love this beer. I really enjoy having a few of these from the stubby or on tap, but find that after a few, the flavours can become overwhelming and the enjoyability starts to wane. Overall, it's a very drinkable beer but probably not one that you would want to sit down for a lengthy drinking session with.....

Fantastic job mate! Fat Yak is one of my go to beers!
Upvote coming your way!

Now you're talking bro! 💥

Looks nice and rather dark for a pale ale. Love the can art

Nice review.

Beer is proof that god loves us and wants us to be happy.

That is interesting from Australia!

Good from time to time, you say? I am diveded on these macro-craft in-betweens but this one looks drinkable! 😉

I think its beginnings as a fair dinkum craft brewe y still shine through somewhat but it has changed over the years.

A very nice Pale Ale indeed

Great reviews! Are you Melbourne-based by any chance?

No. Tassie born and bred and living on the Gold Coast now! How about you? Are you a member of #TeamAustralia yet?

I'm a Melbourner. New here too, and not sure how to go about joining the team.

Arghh Fat Yak - the beer that started the whole craft beer thing for many of us. And Matilda Bay, so much of Australian Craft beer can be tracked back to that Brewery, as you say Little Creatures, but also Stone & Wood, which together make up a fair chunk of the 'Craft' beer market. It really is a shame how it got treated by Fosters/SAB Miller/ AB Inbev, moved around the country from Freo to Dandenong to Port Melbourne and now brewed down at Cascade in Tassie. But at the end of the day I'll always have a soft spot for a Yak, even if Alpha is their much, much better pale ale
