Brewed by:

Carlton and United Breweries

Alcohol Content:

4.9%

Beer Type:

Lager

History:

In 1864, an English immigrant, Edward Latham, opened the Carlton Brewery. In 1907, the Carlton Brewery amalagamated with the McCracken, Victoria, Shamrock, Foster’s and Castlemaine breweries. And so began the story of CUB (Carlton & United Breweries) which today is one of the world’s largest brewing companies.

According to the official website, Carlton Dry has an exceptional dry finish that has been achieved through an extended brewing process, creating a smoother, drier beer that has 30% less carbohydrates than other full strength beers. The Carlton dry logo emphasises the most recognisable and loved elements of the Carlton tradition, such as the iconic Clydesdales and the brand's historic founding in 1864. Source

Drinkers Review:

The premium lager of the CUB range, Crown Lager is anything but premium. It has a very unpleasant chemical aroma, smells like grass when you've just sprayed your backyard with pesticide. And that mouthfeel? How can you have so much carbonation in the glass and such a pitiful, weak feel? Where are the bubbles when I could use them, to add some texture? What a crown turd of a beer. This is actually VB with a slightly modified brewing process and a outrageous mark up.

Avoid this like the plague and be thankful that I took one for the team to give you this review and save you the horrid experience of sucking back on one and spraying it all over your TV!

Not one I've heard of dude, however I did see SK washing his Kangaroo steak down with it the other day.
This 'Drink your way around Australia' series has been awesome Scotty.

nailed it. I've always thought poorly of this beer, the first time i was offered one i thought oh, looks fancy, nice bottle, always seen it at the bottle-o as not very cheap. one taste, fkn nuh.
a lot of people i know seem to enjoy it but then again, a lot of people i know are idiots.

The golden microphone - I come across this beer more often than I would like. I hate how none beery folk think this is 'good beer' or 'fancy beer' that you buy for your mate who likes beer. But if you like beer, then you tend to hate Crownies - because as you mention it tastes exactly the same as all of the CUB mainstream beers - it's because they have no malt to cut costs and they all have Pride of Ringwood hops in them, which in my opinion taste like tin.

Yes. I have picked the Pride of Ringwood Hops in a previous life and they don’t seem as nice as others I have picked. An awful beer that gets way too much attention as a macro-lager. Thanks for the response.

You are more than accurate with this review. I love the reference to cashed up bogans, this is all too true sadly.

It is a pitiful beer and carlton should be ashamed of this creation, not that they make any great beer anyway.

I'd rather drink the yellow fluid leaking from my dog onto the lamp post than drink this shite.

Keep up the great work!
