New Story - written exclusively on Steemit - WiP - Bouncer Part 45

This is turning out to be quite a tale (I know, my opinion...) and I think it'll make a novel-sized story.

I'm listening to the feedback and if something resonates, I've decided that I'll go with it (thanks @kiwideb).

Feel free to give feedback on characters, storylines etc - even if you think it's harsh.

Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6, Part 7, Part 8, Part 9, Part 10, Part 11, Part 12, Part 13, Part 14, Part 15, Part 16, Part 17, Part 18, Part 19, Part 20, Part 21, Part 22, Part 23, Part 24, Part 25, Part 26, part 27, Part 28, Part 29, Part 30 Part 31 Part 32 Part 34 Part 35 Part 36 Part 37 Part 38 Part 39 Part 40 Part 41 Part 42 Part 43 Part 44

Please note: This is the FIRST DRAFT, no editing, written straight onto paper. I don't know how to highlight that any more than it is. I'll NOT be making any alterations to what's already been written. As a good friend and excellent author has said, First draft is a race to get the story down before it decides to stop telling itself to you. Thanks Glenn. @alienbutt

What do you think of this for a cover?

“Someone took a dislike to the club, it seems,” he said.

Zack nodded, allowing the officer to talk. “I’ll make sure that officer isn’t on any more visits.”

“I’d appreciate that. I’ve got nothing but professional courtesy for you and your officers,” Zack said.

“Yeah, I know. Still, now this is out of the way, it’s a win for you guys. We can be a little more circumspect with regards to future anonymous reports that come in.”

“Yeah, it’s done us a favour, really,” Zack said, smiling. “If you get chance, call in when you’ve finished your shift. I’m sure Mr Vasilyevich will show his appreciation. There’s probably a nice bottle of Champagne with your name on it in the VIP bar.”

The officer laughed. “Thanks Zack. Keep it on ice. I can’t make it tonight, but I’ll be here before next weekend and I’ll take you up on that offer.”

Mikhail was informed that his companion had left and he shrugged his shoulders. He was more concerned with consuming as much of the Champagne as he could in the short time he was there as a welcome guest.

Taylor told Marcus he was grateful for the back-up but it was no longer necessary and Marcus went back to his friends to discover the bar tab would be taken care of for the remainder of the evening.

Nyx continued to take pictures all evening and at the end of the night, she was escorted into the VIP room where she was invited to take pictures of Mr Vasilyevich and his guests enjoying their evening.

She was delighted to be asked to give out her card to a few minor celebrities and one major celebrity, and when Mr Vasilyevich offered her a glass of Champagne, she took it and sipped it like she knew what she was doing.

Nyx looked around the room, taking everything in, the angles, the lighting and the décor.

“Do you like what you see?” Mr Vasilyevich said to her.

She nodded, took another sip of her Champagne and turned to him. “Yes, I do,” she said. “I think it’s a fantastic venue. I’d love to have a photo-shoot here, I think the lighting effects would take my pictures to the next level.”

“I think you’re right,” Mr Vasilyevich said. “Have a word with Miss Cooper, I’m sure she’ll be willing to open the club for you on occasion.”

Nyx then realised who she was talking to and turned to look at him. “Oh, I’m really sorry. I didn’t realise this was your club… or, I mean, that you were the big boss…” she stammered.

Vasilyevich laughed. “I like that. I may have ‘Big Boss’ put on my office door,” he said and walked away.

The volume of customers thinned, the doormen ushered them out with subtle finesse and there was no trouble to speak of. A young man stumbled at the top of the stairs and someone grabbed him and set him back on his feet before he fell all the way to the bottom, but no violence occurred.

The doors were locked, the lights on full and the club looked so different in comparison to an hour before. Nyx trotted off to take more pictures and she could be heard now the music was off. Zack hadn’t realised how much she spoke when she took the shots. A commentary on the lighting, the shot itself, her thoughts, were all vocalised and Zack was fascinated.

Back to the matters at hand, however and when Liz coughed, Nyx switched off her camera and came back to the group – staff and bosses.

“I’m impressed with your teams, Zack. Not a complaint to be heard. With the online invitations, there was also a survey form. I’ve not had many in as yet, a lot were handed in at Reception before the night started, so they can’t really be taken into account with regards to feedback, but some were handed in over the bar.” She took a few pieces of paper off the bar and leafed through them.

“By and large, the feedback seems favourable in all aspects. Things that could be improved upon seem to be the friendliness of the bar staff, so keep an eye on that, would you, Davey?” she looked up from the papers at Davey, the bar manager.

He nodded without a word.

“Right, we have an additional and unexpected member of staff for you to get to know,” Liz said and looked directly at Nyx. “Nyx is our new in-house photographer. I don’t quite know how she works yet, but please, if she asks you to pose for her, smile and make it look like you enjoy your job.”

A smattering of laughter made Liz smile and she said, “Right, there’s a drink at the bar for you all. Please remember we have another full night’s work tomorrow night. Thank you. Well done!”

Sort:

The first night was handled very well. I expect we will see more problems ahead from the competition?

Enjoyed and can hardly wait to see what is in store for the new photographer. A nice smooth transition in dialogue.

How is your mother-in-law is she recovering well?

Back to say I like the book cover, forgot to mention earlier.

Oh, you were busy I see :) I must take some free time and give it a go from part 1
