Thai Massage

After rolling outta bed and some breakfast we go straight for a thai massage to treat that jet lag. No, NOT sexual.
We walk into a studio and are then led to some nearby courtyard to another studio. Always feels kinda strange when stuff like this happens. Am I getting a massage or rid of my kidneys?
In the studio a stout lady who speaks little to no english takes care of me. Starting with a gentle foot bath it finally climaxes with the lady and me basically wrestling (Gerry, if you read that: you were right.). My spine does cracking sounds plenty times and suddenly feels fully aligned! Wow!
200 BHT (=5,10 €) for 1 hour which was totally worth it.

Nachdem wir aus dem Bett rollen und frühstücken, gönnen wir uns gleich mal eine Thai Massage, um dem Jetlag Abhilfe zu verschaffen. Nein, NICHTS sexuelles.
Wir gehen in ein Massagestudio und werden direkt in einen nahegelegenen Innenhof zu einem anderen Studio gebracht. >Fühlt sich immer seltsam an, wenn soetwas passiert. Bekomme ich jetzt eine Massage oder die Nieren herausgeschnitten?
Im Studio kümmert sich eine korpulente Dame mit rudimentären Englischkenntnissen um mich. Es beginnt mit einem sanften Fußbad mit Limette und steigert sich zu einem Punkt, an dem ich quasi mit der molligen lady ringe (Gerry, wenn du das liest: du hattest Recht.). Meine Wirbelsäule knackt einige Mal und fühlt sich erfrischend neu ausgerichtet an! Wow!
200 THB (=5,10 €) für 1 Stunde, die es total wert war.

Hiring A TukTuk

Expecting a rip-off, we experienced the following: a rip-off.
Long story short: he drove us to all the places where you’re supposed to pay an entry fee (didn’t pay) or buy (didn’t buy) something. Lucky Buddha was free and the ride was fun though! At the end he dropped us at a restaurant (named ‘Canal View’) with ‘european food’ - we knew what was up but gave it a chance: horrible & expensive.
40 THB (=1 €) for 1 hour of riding through the city center; if he had change.
F it. Let’s go to Khaosan Road.

Eine Abzocke erwartend widerfuhr uns folgendes: ein Abzocke.
Kurz gesagt: er hat uns zu all den Sehenswürdigkeiten mit Eintrittsgebühr (nichts gezahlt) und Kaufzwang (nichts gekauft) gefahren. Lucky Buddha war allerdings gratis und die Fahrt war spaßig! Am Ende hat er uns bei einem Restaurant mit “Europäischem Essen” abgesetzt - wir wussten, was kommen sollte und gaben dem trotzdem eine Chance. Fazit: ekelhaft & teuer.
40 THB (=1 €) für 1 Stunde rumfahren im Stadtzentrum; hätte er Wechselgeld gehabt.
Egal. Auf zur Khaosan Road.

Khaosan Road

I felt strange ever since I arrived. I figured that feeling is rooted in comparison: I was always comparing Thailand to Indonesia and once again realized that comparison is the killer of joy.
I stopped doing so after lunch today and walked Khaosan Road with the eyes of a child. Khaosan is THE hostel and party street in Bangkok. During the day it’s busy street full of markets and friendly looking Thai people promoting their stuff: Food, buckets of alcoholic drinks, laughing gas, whores, filthy shows. Wow, that wasn’t stuff for children’s eyes.
As I write this post we’re about to head out for Khaosan night life. Would love to take pictures for you but they'd sure as hell steal my phone. See you tomorrow! :)

Seit wir angekommen sind fühl ich mich komisch. Es liegt daran, dass ich Thailand ständig mit Indonesien vergleiche und stelle abermals fest, dass das Vergleichen die Freude aus allem nehmen kann.
Nach dem Mittagessen hab ich die Vergleicherei dann sein lassen und bin mit den Augen eines Kindes durch die Khaosan Road spaziert. Khaosan ist DIE Hostel und Party-Straße in Bangkok. Unter Tags ist es eine geschäftige Straße voller kleiner Verkaufsstände und freundlich aussehenden Thais, die ihr Zeug vermarkten: Essen, Kübel voller alkoholischer Getränke, Lachgas, Huren, obszöne Shows. Wow, das war nichts für Kinderaugen.
Als ich diesen Post fertig schreibe, sind wir kurz vor dem Aufbruch ins Khaosan-Nachtleben. Würde gerne Fotos für euch machen, aber da ist mein Handy fix weg. Bis morgen! :)
