SoS Daily News : news about the State of Steem @ 17 January 2019

in #steem5 years ago (edited)

A good day for Steem.

@ned spent another hour talking with the community on MSP Waves.

The price of STEEM continued climbing to $0.33.

Steem moved up no. 48 on CoinMarketCap.com

Increasinging the communication flow from Steemit Inc and from CEO Ned is definitely welcome by all.

More of all of it please!

Ned's Second Appearance of the Week on MSP Waves

After the surprise visit to Aggroed's show on Sunday, Steemit Inc CEO Ned Scott came on the State of Steem Forum #4 as a guest to talk about the new Mission, Vision and Values document.

Ned spent over an hour on the forum talking about the MVV document.

He also answered questions from the host @pennsif and a number of forum speakers including @fredrikaa, @jackmiller, @paulag and @teamhumble.

Ned emphasised that building communities, and providing the tools to facilitate that, are an upcoming priority for Steemit Inc in the coming months.

He also mentioned the importance of advertising as a growing additional income stream.

The steemit.com front end app will be given much more development attention now to increase usage and stickiness and to provide a platform for the advertisements.

Steemit Inc are looking to move forward with more open communication with the community particularly through more appearances on various Discord channels.

They are keen to involve community developers now in ongoing technical development. In the first instance they will be looking for ideas and input in building out the steemit.com app.

With Hivemind now being available it may well be that the community may begin to develop community applications on top of that.

Completing the current MIRA Rocks DB work is the current number one priority to facilitate further node cost reductions.

Once that is completed the attention will return to development work for SMTs and Communities.

Ned was not able to give any specific timelines or target release dates at present.

The recording of the forum and Ned's interview will be posted very shortly.

And speaking of Communities...

Developer @shredz7 is pushing ahead with the developments on his Stratos (previously Engine) network.

He has just announced significant progress on getting Communities up and running on the Stratos network.

Stratos has become one of the first users of @themarkymark's new public API node, rather than using a Steemit Inc node.

Implementing Communities is now the main thrust for Stratos...

I’ve also been working very hard on an upcoming Communities implementation. I believe communities are integral to increasing Steem engagement and curation and are the future of Steem. So far what has been implemented is the creation of communities as well as the ability to give people roles such as Owner, Admin, Moderator, and Author.

It is looking like Stratos will have the first Communities system available on Steem before the Hivemind Community facilities become available...

Price-Breaker.com now accepts STEEM

Getting STEEM out there in the marketplace being used for retail payments is a big must.

More usage = more demand = higher price.

@theycallmedan reports the Price-Breaker.com website has now agreed to accept payment in STEEM.

They are using the CoinPayments.net system.

If you spot any other sites using CoinPayments.Net ask them to switch on the STEEM payment option.

Well it's great news to see that plans are afoot to move things forward.

It is just such a shame that @ned has negatively impacted one of the most vibrant communities on Steemit (musicians) by removing his delegation from @dsound with the reason that he hadn't been contacted by them.

If communities are integral to the future of Steemit maybe you would reconsider your delegation to dsound @Ned? There are 1000s of musicians that would really appreciate it!

I agree, there are lots of musicians via dsound that would love to have this delegation re-instated!

Well said @atomcollector - safe to say that the dsound community was "less than impressed" with the way that all went down. It has sent a shock wave through the music community and those that used the @dsound dApp to help bring music to the steem blockchain.

If the delegation can be reconsidered and the doors of communication opened more with dsound, the feeling would certainly be lifted.

yes I concur, so much about building communities and total disregard for one of the biggest ones in the entire Steemit ecosystem...without warning and notifications ...shame on you Ned....shame.....shame....shame...shame.....

yes couldn't agree more , why ned ? why ? , @dsound is for sure one of the biggest selling points of steemit as a great platform , I don't understand your thinking on this issue at all :(

I am less excited about and involved in Steemit since he did this. I'm not a blogger or a video-maker or a crypto-news person and have zero desire to be. I am a musician. There was ONE Dapp on Steemit that I used. It got crippled. Maybe DSound will be better off in the long term without the delegation, but the way this was done was BS, imo.

@dsound was my gateway into this ecosystem and has -the- most active and community oriented developer in the game. Mansgement being oblivious to DSound’s contribution to the steem blockchain or the size and potential of the community around it is straight up ALARMING re: my time + money investment in the platform.

Literally handicapping the best ambassador Steem has to the creative community!

It's called clipping our wings. Just when they realized we can fly, through the rising tide, they are taking the wind from under us. Like Smiths in the matrix, gate keepers are gatekeepers, come the moment of conversion. Lot's of folks are intentionally stiffing progress, when they know they can make things better. They want their own and not for others.

Together we elevate! Indie all the way. Let's support Musicoin more. :) I know I went off, but this place(Steemit) is so suppressing, I feel, of my kind of free thought, it's conformity to the community or no upvotes. Community is good and all, but isn't this enforced tribalism? Why don't they work on people being able to be discovered and sustain themselves without the need for a community? Isn't that what being decentralized is all about. I know I sound contradictory, being that I'm a part of many communities, but dang nabit. LOL #indieNetwork

Spot on @atomcollector - Dsound is one of, if not the biggest things on Steemit for musicians, it's been a really beneficial part of Steemit for me and countless others, I'd be really disappointed to see @dsound lose support from @ned

As a very active user of Steemit and DSound I actually felt disrespected with this action and really though about stop using Steemit and take all my steem out because you can't deny the fact that there was a lot of activity in DSound and a lot great musicians involved to just do what you did without notice. And if in fact the reason was that you haven't heard from the project in a while, wasn't it wiser to first try to find out what was going on with it??? Maybe look for a better solution?

Well said @atomcollector. What a shame that the community has been penalised for something that appears so trivial and easily fixable. The Steemit/DSound combo is one of the best of the new wave of (and ever expanding) outlets for musicians and it would be a shame to see the community leave for pastures new :-(

thats very sad. i always saw steemit(combined with dsound) as one of the best platforms for music on the blockchain. but that doesnt seem to be the case anymore. being let down like that without any communication before feels very discouraging and it seems that steemit has no respect for their content-creators at all. if music has no value here.. what else will be devalued in the future? photos? videos? poetry?

Unless there will be no more delegating to communities by the steemit management, one would think the music community on steemit that @dsound supports, with all its engagement and retention, would never have its delegation rescinded...

It looks like Pedro is getting a good plan worked out now...

Didn't ned say, a year ago or so, that steemit frontend is not going to be developed any more?
Talking about 180° roadmapping

There appears to have been a change of priorities...

Since they are trying to drum up revenue via advertising, they now have a major incentive to get steemit.com to be the absolute best it can be. Perhaps that will also be good for steem.

steemit.com will definitely need to be front and centre now for the advertising to pull in the $$$.

Increasinging the communication flow from Steemit Inc and from CEO Ned is definitely welcome by all. And it seems to have a good impact on the price of STEEM.

@ned didn't get a warm welcome from the community. Increased communications from Steemit Inc is obviously something that the community demands and we want more regardless of the animosity towards their CEO. Good or bad news, we want it all and regularly. It is important for investors and potential businesses.

The part about @ned showing up creating an impact of the price of STEEM indicates to me that you are completely disillusioned about his impact of the price of STEEM. @ned showing and starting communications had nothing to do with the price of STEEM.

I though this SOS was about creating a home for factual information and not some place to spread rumors. Why would you do that?

Personally, I couldn't care less about how much or little they communicate. I just care about them actually getting stuff done. In fact, if they have to communicate too much and it takes away time that could be spent actually getting things done, I would prefer they communicate less. Bottom line, get ish done steemit, inc and the community will love you!

Well, I care. Steemit Inc has the potential to wreck STEEM. They have that power. Businesses need to understand what Steemit Inc is up to as it could be a make-or-break a decision if they will use STEEM as their blockchain. Without communication, businesses are going to say no thank you and go somewhere else. Also, Steemit Inc’s complete lack of effort to get STEEM listed on exchanges negatively impacts businesses. I would hardly call SMTs a year behind and potentially to never get accomplished as “getting things done”. At this point, I don’t believe that they have the ability to deliver anything on time or have any confidence that they can get things done including something as simple as communication.

To further my point, I have a friend that wants to bring hundreds of thousands or over a million dollars worth of investment to STEEM. It is difficult to advise him that this is a wise choice as I am second guessing my own decision for making STEEM my home. Now there is some "Irony"

I think you have missed my point entirely.

What good is them showing up and talking every couple of days holding our hands if that impacts them actually completing things?!

Their track record has been terrible in regards to completing and delivering, but based on recent deliverables, there is hope they have turned a corner in this regard.

No one is a big fan of steemit, inc currently, including myself, but I would rather they spend their time and resources actually getting things done as opposed to holding people's hands. Announce the project/plan, give a timeline, then go get it done.

Simple enough. Just have to start following through now.

BTW that is categorically false that they haven't tried to get steem listed on any exchanges. They have gotten steem listed on several exchanges, including paying a hefty fee to do so.

Regarding your friend, hopefully he is able to do his own DD before putting that amount of money anywhere.

One thing for sure is that it will go somewhere.

Not many other coins out there where you can make roughly 30% on your investment per year like you can with Steem Power... and that is without the price of steem going up at all. That is a nice bonus most coins don't have.

The concern is if STEEM is actually a safe place to invest vs others. 30% is a reality (very true), but if value gets damaged or if users go elsewhere, then that 30%, 50%, or even a 100% RIO in STEEM will mean nothing. If someone that wanted to spend an equivilant of a nice dinner out on STEEM investment, then I would for sure tell them that it is the right thing to do. My friend though would really be pissed if he lost a significant amount.

"A safe place to invest"?! Good one... Probably shouldn't be putting money into crypto at all if one is looking for a "safe place to invest." Bitcoin probably has the best chance of anything at being around a few years from now and it is still a lotto ticket. This is cryptocurrency, it is all a gamble.

That being said, I get what you are trying to say here. The relative 'riskiness' of steem may be elevated compared to some other coins, and I would agree with that.

It is called irony and humour.

Dsound is a cool and the only platform here to support talented musicians with awards, it is very unfair that the delegation was abruptly canceled:-(

As a musician, dsound is the only place why, i'm here on steemit!

I hope that everything will return...
