Here comes the Hivemind...

Only need one headline today.

Steemit Inc has released Hivemind.

This is a major advance for the efficient running, and decentralisation, of the steem blockchain.

Hivemind is Live!

Steemit Inc has now released Hivemind.

This is a major advance for the blockchain as it reduces the memory requirements, and thus costs, for running full API nodes significantly.

Hello Steemians, we are excited to announce that Steemit’s APIs are now powered by Hivemind! By routing most of the social APIs to Hivemind, we are able to dramatically shrink the size of the full nodes we run.
Hivemind is a service that syncs a traditional database with the blockchain. An added benefit of Hivemind is that since it’s written in Python, developers can modify its behavior and APIs with ease, instead of relying on C++ developers and modifying code which can interact with critical consensus logic.

Steemit Inc have managed to reduce the memory needed down from 488GB to just 61GB...

We are extremely excited to see Hivemind running in production, on-disk, and utilizing AppBase. After completing this task, we have decreased our steemd instance sizes from 488GB RAM to 61GB RAM instances.

This reduction in memory, and subsequent reduction in server cost, will make it much easier for many more full nodes to be run. This will lessen reliance on Steemit Inc's nodes and greatly enhance the decentralisation of the steem blockchain.

The next step will be the completion of the MIRA RocksDB developments which will bring further optimisation to the blockchain and the nodes.

If you would you like to know more about the current nodes you can check @holger80's regular Full Node Update posts...

Just a quick one ... PayPal and Coinbase

Witness @justyy has reported that PayPal withdrawals are now available on Coinbase.

That seems interesting. I must check it out...

Nice to hear some good news for a change. And great to see that Steem is actually breaking away from the Bitcoin-dominated crypto market this morning. A small upturn, but hopefully a trend that continues.

That is good to see. I wonder if the uptick is connected to the Hivemind announcement, or some other factor?

In my experience the markets rarely follow logic, but maybe Hivemind was the trigger. Let's hope it continues.

Looking forward to more and more great news coming this year. I really think this year everything is going to turn around for us.
