So Now There Is Advertising....steemCreated with Sketch.

... at the bottom of some of my posts. Particularly the ones that seem to have a good bit of commenting "activity" on them.

I suppose that means the "advertising model" of revenue generation has come to Steemit.

Maybe I am just being weird and contrary here, but does it strike anyone else as slightly odd that there now is (undoubtedly) fiat based advertising on a cryptocurrency blockchain social site?

I am not really surprised, mind you.

In spite of all the naysayers over the years who have insisted that a business model wasn't really "necessary" for blockchain projects, I think we are slowly coming around to the reality that it takes money to fund the resources and manpower that drives these projects forward.

And you just can't just count on your revenues coming from an ever-increasing market valuation. Markets go up and down.

So now we are all faced with more rudimentary and pesky business questions such as "How are you planning to MAKE MONEY with that?"

Not going to launch into "Told You So" mode; just going to sit back and enjoy the show, and see how this all pans out. And, in the meantime, I'm just going to enjoy blogging and interacting with the community here.

Which is still pretty damn cool!

Meanwhile....

... I am still trying to learn to write shorter posts.

Not all the time (because that's really not who I am) but now and again, like this one. Still going to use all my own photos, though...

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

How about YOU? Have you started getting outside ads at the end of some of your posts? What do you think about that? Do you think these crypto projects heed to have a business plan that includes "how to make money?" Or is that "outdated thinking," on my behalf? Leave a comment-- share your experiences-- be part of the conversation!

I noticed the ads too a few days back. Surprise I haven't heard more people talk about it.

Shorter posts, I'm finally doing the same here and there. Balance between efficient and worthwhile read I suppose?

I'm surprised "ad discussions" haven't popped up more.

I'm just playing around with the shorter format. Take a brief idea, make a brief point and go with it. Still plan to do mostly long-format posts... in fact, I have a couple of 2000-worders in the pipeline.

Just not going to adhere quite so much to "Unless I have enough for a full magazine-like article, I won't write it" thinking.

Well, the money has to come from somewhere, not from an overinflated balloon.
With regards to advertizing on steemit, it could be the solution to the funding issues that steemit inc. has had. Not advertizing in a Facebook kind of way, because that will never work on Steemit...But if we can find a way to make advertizing work, then why not?
Have you checked out the @dclick project, this could be a way of making it work..

Of course a business model is needed, hard to understand if there hasn't been any...Maybe that is why everything seems to be crashing right now...

I salute the flag in your post, the beautiful flag of my country😁

God dag til dig👍

I lige måde! Selvom vi bor i USA nu har vi stadig sommerhus i Danmark.

Well, in order for the advertising model to work at all, traffic to the site has to become much higher, and that would probably require a major overwork of the user interface to make it more intuitive/user friendly to a wider audience.

UNLESS they are planning for the Steemit, Inc. placed ads to project through ALL the different front ends currently in use.

I guess all these blockchain projects were based on the false concepts that the markets would always go UP. Very bad plan!

Dejligt med lidt dansk her på Steemit 😁

You make some very good points, even creators of dapps should have started out with a business plan...seems kind of naive to expect value to go up forever, and even more naive to believe that it would be able to fund projects completely..

I love adblocker...

And you just can't just count on your revenues coming from an ever-increasing market valuation

This is where us 'old timers' just don't get it. .... lmao.

Whaddaya mean there's no money for nothing????

Adblockers are pretty nifty... and part of the reason the ad-based model is increasingly thin...

I haven't been that prolific at posting lately (especially since November), so I haven't noticed ads at the bottom of my posts, though I thought I saw ads in my feed a while back. That seems to have disappeared.

I'm not a fan of ads, though. At least static ones that don't tell me much about the product or service they're trying to sell. I don't like them on websites, and I don't like how they follow me around from one to the next with something they think I'm going to buy because I've been looking at it. They don't stop even after I did buy the product.

I've been on both sides of advertising. Didn't really like either side, to tell you the truth. I think it takes way too much time, energy and resources to get an effective message out, and even then, that's mainly for product awareness for early adopters, because then word-of-mouth, whatever form that takes nowadays, still ends up driving the majority of sales.

So, good luck to Steemit Inc, all power to them, but I will end up ignoring their ads just like I ignore everyone else's. :)

I do find it kind of ironic, the potential of fiat to keep a cryptocurrency going, but maybe that's what's been missing from the start. Since the markets don't seem to care about utility, just how high they can pump to dump, creating value from nothing is a risky business anyway.

And then dapps showing up with very little capital of their own (I say that, because there doesn't appear to be any dApps that aren't wanting some kind of delegation to keep their doors open with), which proves to be a rather inefficient, if not downright ineffective business model.

Somehow, we need to move past the markets being the only thing that gives STEEM value, but we're not there yet, and I think, as long as it actually keeps going, it will continue to be a slow and painful process. Painful in that we will have these ups and mainly downs and we'll all wish we were farther along than what we possibly could ever be.

My weekend was great! Hope that yours was too!
I don’t mind the adds. For the moment they are only shown on steemit while busy.org is my main frontend!
I would be great if they would share the add income with the steemians on which posts they were embedded. But I doubt it!

Interesting to see them roll out to more people. I've only been seeing them in my feed for a while.

Be cool if we got some kind of cut of the ads at some point. Really no incentive to try and drive traffics to our blogs towards people who don't have a Steem account and a stake to upvote those posts. Not to mention older posts just sitting there.

I'm working on increasing my own influence reach outside of the platform and looking for other ways to try and monetize content. I'm just putting in to much time on my content for what they get. So 2019 is the year I work that out or reduce the amount of effort and time I'm spending.

Have a great week!

I saw an ad the other day, But so far that was it. It was sandwiched in between posts and it kinda threw me off. I'm totally fine with it. As long as there aren't so many ads that the site is annoying to be on, Like a spam site with all the flashy ads lol.

I hope that it will help Steemit keep on going!

did not see ads on my posts (maybe not enough views), did not really seen it on other posts, but i am not using steemit that much in comparison to other dapps.
