We made this week donation week. Any donation/transfer I receive during this week with the memo "week13-19 awards" or something to that effect will be shared out at the end of the week.
Same conditions as last week.

  • Post at least 2 freewrites in the 7 days
  • Use the prompt - I will not accept posts which have nothing at all to do with the prompt. The idea is to write something new for this challenge.

  • You must do all - I can’t hunt you all down to try to count you.

I am so grateful that you have been responding.

This was what came to my mind instantly when I came across this prompt. I know it's not too good, but I wanted to write something.

Great grandpa Ian was not a bad man at all, but sadly my father realized that when he lost him to cancer. I was raised by my father alone since my mother passed away while giving birth to me. My father was raised by his grandfather who was my great grandpa. Grandpa Ian was quite harsh on my father throughout his child- always asking him to do his work on time, making sure he did all the farm work and studied as well and also made him cook food, iron his clothes, cut wood, make the fire and everything else he could think of.

So as a child my father didn’t like great grandpa Ian that much. Another reason he didn’t like him much was that great granda used to sneeze a lot. Every time he sneezed, great grandpa’s nose used to twitch like a gazillion times followed by the loudest sneeze ever and as he sneezed, drops of saliva used to squirt out of his mouth to and often landed on my father when he was around him. So yeah, that is quite a valid reason for not liking great grandpa.

When my father stepped into adulthood, he found out that great grandpa suffered from cancer and after two years of battling with it, he lost his life to pancreatic cancer. It was then that my father was on his own and it was then that he understood how kind great grandpa was on him. he was able to live quite well and easily on his own because he knew how to live independently and had no trouble doing work for himself.

Ding- time's up

ooooh. That sneeze !! thanks for writing :)

I wrote something with the app on this. But then I don't think it's a good post. So I just took a screenshot and post here as a comment.

That was good, I'm not a writer either, I love to read though, and I think you did great as a non writer, it's about having fun. And I have been having a lot of fun, did't think i would but I am, so keep at it. We grow by leaving our box behind.

Yup. If I compare myself to the writers, then I am not doing a good job. But then if I am to purely enjoy the challenge, I am pretty sure I am doing an awesome job. Coz I am really having fun! Thanks @mariannewest and @improv for coming up with this crazy fun writing challenge! Oh and thank you @bashadow

*We grow by leaving our box behind. Very nicely said!

@bashadow You said that wonderfully!! And you are a writer!! You are writing :) The more we do it, the more we find things to write about we had no idea that they were in our head :) Btw. I didn't write for many, many years after I came to the States and considered myself not able to do so. Now, sometimes words flow - and other times, they don't. It's all good though. So glad that you are having fun!!

Don't discourage yourself @elizacheng, this is a good mind flow like the others..soon if you keep practicing you will learn that anxiety and worries are enemy of creativity.. just let the positive energy flow and enjoy, no one is here for judgeing you ;-)

Thank you! I will keep trying. And just hope that my silly pieces won't be see as spam.

Nothing you scribe is ever spam Liz :)

You start there and grow 💙

And I think whoever reads that can agree you can write but you need to focus :)

Ya, really I need to focus. And getting into the habit of writing.

Your post was an honestly good freewrite. We all have words and phrases that will immediately conjure up a story in our minds. And we all have times where the prompt leaves us floundering. To be honest, I am surprised that I haven't written a list of chores and errands yet. It is bound to happen eventually. The prompt would be "mirror" (or such) and my freewrite will look like: wash curtains, clean windows, vacuum, do laundry, dust mirror, wash fish tank filters, lightbulbs, dog food,....

Hmm... If mirror is my prompt, I would be going into the ghost story haunting mode... LOL...

Oooh! I would love to read that! Here's to hoping she has 'mirror' as a prompt. (written in a very loud stage whisper)

Coming back and see the "mirror", now I am into the Snow White mode... Mirror mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of the all...

Ha! Where did the entity in the mirror disappear to when the Evil Queen wasn't talking to it? Bonus points to you because it is snowing where I am. :)

Wow! I have never experience snow yet in my life... Must go to the countries with snow at least once to experience this!

Eliza - that is a perfect freewrite!! You came up with some great imagery. Love the big crooked nose!! So glad you are writing with us!!!

Thanks Marianne! Love this freewrite. I guess during the weekend, if I do join, I will posting screenshot as comment to your prompt post Coz I won't be accessing my laptop.

Thank you @mariannewest for this prompt. Here is my entry and a link to my post:

Great Grandpa's Nose

Great grandpa is a pillar of British pride. You might guess, that's the opposite to me. (I'm ashamed to be British since the BREXIT fiasco!)

As you can imagine, we don't get on.

I can't stand the man but etiquette stops me telling him what I think of his superior, self-righteous attitude to life.

Great grandpa's nose stuck in the air, while he pontificates about the state of the world and the shortcomings of young people, makes me want to take three pegs, one for his nose and two to clip his lips together. Hah, that would shut him up!

But, no, gotta have respect... I'll be his age one day, all being well. Maybe I'll be an old fart!

https://steemit.com/freewrite/@deemarshall/my-entry-to-day-29-5-minute-freewrite-prompt-great-grandpa-s-nose

Hahahahaha! I was reading the 'freewrite' tagged posts before I came to look for today's prompt. After I read the first one, I honestly expected it to be from the prompt: ooze and I was confused that they hadn't mentioned ooze at all. Then I saw the second one and laughed before I clicked on it that TWO people had thought of their great grandpa's nose when they saw the "ooze" prompt.

Then I realized that I was a day behind. :/

I thought you might enjoy a laugh at my expense, because it was a little funny.

and grandpa's nose might have oozed quite a bit :) 2 for 1 day :)

So where do we see who wins each time?

Wins what? The freewrite isn't a competition. Last week, I said I was going to share the sbd payouts of the prompt posts. combined and then divided among all freewriters who posted at least twice that week. The payouts should be all in by Monday - I believe. then I divide and transfer.
This week, we are collecting donations and divide and transfer.
After that, I don't know.
I have to see how much work the tranfers are for me. It already takes a lot of my time to prepare the prompts, read everyone's, leave a comment and the next prompt.
I heard about an automation tool where you can share the payout of a post, but am not sure how that works and how to distinguish between people just leaving a comment or people leaving a prompt.
That said, the rewards or shares are at this point at least very small and I would hope that people are participating because they see that value of becoming better writers, having regular posts they can earn from and for the community which is building.
I don't have friends with big pockets - at least not yet and the ones I have asked so far to support this, or to put some payout power behind the freewrite, haven't been able to do so.
And frankly, on many posts, the payouts you guys get on your freewrite are higher than the one I get.
Hope that answers your question.

That more than answers it. I will continue to participate because I think it is fun and maybe it will help me to be a better writer.

Not only does the freewrite help your writing, it also helps with making contacts. I have several interesting new friends from freewrite.

I agree - this has been a really good effect from this challenge in particular.

I think you could go to others running contests/challenges and ask them how they do it in the comments. More people will hear about the challenge that way too. This one deserves support!

I am sure there is an easy way to do it. The manual way will take a long time.

Yes. good idea. I will ask around!

(wisdom moment off/ stupidity moment on) Once that @mariannewest will publish the entries like last monday I already have in my sick mind some juicy prizes for the frequent freewriters .. prepare yourself!

I hope steemusa makes your pockets grow. They seem like they are going to be a good group, meantime I have fun.

To be honest, I don't mind if there is no prize in this freewrite challenge. I just love being part of freewrite community and share my write-up. It actually improves my writing, as thoughts and stories are running in my head in 5 minutes. It is already an accomplishment to create a story in a short 5 minutes! I am glad to be part of this community. Thank you @mariannewest for introducing this to us, and it became a daily routine for me. I never knew freewrite until I found about it from @bloghound. What I am hoping is there would be support for freewrite community from whales or curators. More power to us freewriters.

@iyanpol12 I am assuming your name is Iyan? Thank you so much!!! This means so much to me1 Love that you are writing with us!

"My great grandpa's nose was red. His eyes were full of tears. He wasn't about to cry in front of the children, but he wasn't doing well at all. All of their plans had come to a screeching halt when his wife got sick last night...."
