There's a New Hot Cryptocurrency of 2018 so far: Stellar
Does Stellar sound familiar?
It should - It was a featured alt coin in last week's Crypto Cage Match where we pit it against Verge - another crypto making the scene. When asked why I selected Stellar - it was because of it's recent heavy trading activity and the fact that a lot of people were talking about it. Fast forward to this week and it is making headlines as one of the hottest new cryptos of 2018.
What makes Stellar so special?
Stellar was born in 2014 as an offshoot of Ripple. While Ripple is focused on providing solutions to banks, Stellar aims to help facilitate payments between people. While they work in a similar fashion, Stellar is sort of like a “bottom-up” approach compared to Ripple’s “top-down”. Stellar uses a coin called a Lumen as the currency used by their network. A transaction using Lumens costs just .0001 XLM, worth a small fraction of a penny, and usually takes less than 6 seconds to be settled. The supply of Stellar Lumens grows about 1% annually.
The relatively unheard of crypto alt-coin is already making headlines. The hottest digital coin as 2018 kicks off is Stellar, which has climbed more than 65 percent since Friday into the 10 largest cryptocurrencies by market capitalization. By Tuesday, stellar had a market cap of $10 billion as the eighth-largest digital currency, according to CoinMarketCap. The digital coin traded 17.5 percent higher on the day near 56.4 cents, the website showed.

Stellar operates a network with the blockchain technology behind bitcoin. But unlike the popular digital currency, Stellar's transactions settle in 2 to 5 seconds and allows users to quickly exchange government-backed currencies, such as turning U.S. dollars into euros, according to its website. Stellar's coins are officially called lumens, or XLM. IBM is reportedly using Stellar's network to develop a cross-border payments system with some of the larger banks.

you pose a good question -and it probably would make a good article. To be honest, I don't have a real good reason for it at this point other than to say that my wife has been collecting it from a faucet and when I saw how cheap it was, I picked up a bunch of it just to hold on to - it's amazing how much you can buy when it's only 30 Satoshi!
I hope it takes off then. Especially so your wife can have the bragging rights and say she told you about it. :)
I am looking forward to seeing where Stellar Lumens goes this year. I got in early with 20k token and HODL is my game.
This token is the Peoples XRP, the bank has theirs and "WE THE PEOPLE" have ours, XLM all they way.
I guess I should have got in while the getting was good... but it is still really early on and I think there is plenty of room for continued growth.
