Stepping Out, With M'lady
The ship was luxurious, and very beautiful.
I would have enjoyed it more if I hadn’t have been so sea sick. When we arrived in Listowel, Ireland, a carriage was waiting for us. We took it to a small cottage, set in the middle of a beautiful, green, wet everglade. There, Kries carried me across the threshold, before even unloading our stuff. I giggled as he dropped me on the bed. He leaned down and kissed me before he went out to get our bags. I lied comfortably on the bed, staring up at the ceiling smiling to myself…

I rolled off the bed,
and went out into the living room to see if I could help Kries with anything.
“Honey, do you need me to grab anything?”
He looked up from what he had been doing, and smiled at me.
“I just want you to relax darling. I have this... why don’t you look around?”
I nodded, and kissed him.
As I walked around the house, I couldn’t help but think what a beautiful cottage. There were paintings on the wall of the ocean, and beautiful groves. The walls in the kitchen were painted yellow, accentuating the light that came in through the window. The kitchen window looked out into the backyard, which I now saw had a natural hot spring. I was so excited; we could take a bath together, under the stars. Just then, Kries came up behind me and wrapped his arms around me.
“Do you like it heres my darling?”
“Of course! How could I not?”
I kissed him.
“Well, what should we do now? Do you want to go into the village, and get some stuff for dinner?” I asked him.
“Sure… or...we could just stay here.”
He picked me up and walked toward the bedroom.
I giggled, and squirmed out
of his arms, landing gently on my feet on the floor, and running in the opposite direction. He turned and ran down the other side arriving at the same point as me at the same time. He grabbed me and picked me up, swinging me around.
“If I didn't know any better, I would say you are avoiding our bedroom.”
He smiled at me, putting his hands on my cheeks, and giving me a kiss. I put my hands on his.
“I am avoiding our bedroom. I've got plans for that time...that time being later tonight.”
His eyes were full of sparkles. Apparently, he liked the thought of tonight.
“Alright, we'll wait. Lets get our jackets on, and head to town?”
I smiled and nodded.
We put our jackets on and climbed into the carriage. When we arrived to town, I realized how small it was in comparison to Perth Amboy. There were a few buildings and castles outside of the town, but in town there was just your basic setup. Though it was small, it was green, beautiful and had a cozy feeling to it. We parked the carriage, and got out and walked around. I held his arm, feeling so happy to be married to such an amazing man.
As we passed people, the reactions were so varied.
Older men and women, looked at us like we were so sweet, and innocent. You could see them reminiscing about the days when they were younger and clung to each other. Often the older couples we passed would cling tighter to each other as they passed us with a smile. Couples our own age or only a little older, would try to act as if they were even happier then us, as if it was a competition. The single men our age or older, would nod at Kries almost as if to say, well done with that one, before smiling at me. The single women, would openly stare at Kries, obviously seeing what I did. I clung to Kries even tighter, so grateful to be his wife.
We found a little market,
selling fruits and vegetables. We picked out vegetables, consisting mostly of potatoes, cabbage, carrots, celery, and onions. We bought gooseberries, and apples, and headed to the butcher. Lamb, beef, fish, blood sausage and pork were the main options available. We bought some of each, and headed to the bakery. The bakery sold butter, eggs, milk, and many sorts of breads, and pastries, as well as ingredients necessary to bake with. We bought potato bread, and buttermilk scones, as well as eggs, milk, and butter, as well as everything needed for making pie crusts. The last stop before heading back home, was to buy some traditional Irish tea, stout, and whiskey.
“I'll go buy the drinks, if you want to go in the clothing store and look around?”
“Alright. I love you.”
I leaned over and kissed him.
He had noticed me staring through the window at the beautiful dresses. Separating from him, I walked inside the shop. As I browsed through fabrics and pre-assembled dresses, a woman approached me; she was near Genie's age, with long, red, curly hair. She had bright blue eyes, which made her stand out, and made me relax, realizing she wasn't a demon. She was about 5 '7, medium size build, and wearing a beautiful red dress; it was sheer, and trailing the floor, with a slit up the right front side. The top was corseted, and lined with gold thread. It was hard to look away from her.
“Hello miss, can I help you find something? I am Kora, the owner of this shop.”
“Hi Kora, I am Clara. Uh, yes... I was looking for a nice dress to buy. I am on my honeymoon, and want to pick out something nice to wear to dinner one of the nights I am here.”
I shook her hand.
“Congratulations on your wedding!”
“Thank you! I got lucky, he is amazing.”
“Well, one of the nights you're here, you must come in to my husband's restaurant and eat.. on us!”
I smiled.
“Thank you, we'd like that. What is it called and how do I find it?”
“Just meet me here in two nights time, at seven pm. We will walk over there together.”
She smiled sweetly.
“Now about a dress. Let us get you measured, and find something you would like, shall we?”
I smiled and nodded, following her to her desk. She led me over to a platform, surrounded by mirrors. She began measuring me.
“So dear, what colors were you liking tonight?”
“I, well, I like blue. Though green would be rather flattering too. Do you have any assembled dresses in green and silver in my size?”
“Ooh! I think I might have the perfect one!!!”
She briskly walked to the other
end of the store, pulled a dress off of a hanger, and brought it over to me, holding it up against me.
“What do you think of this one?”
I was speechless.
It was gorgeous. It was a vine green, with silver threads, and pink ribbon sewn into it. It was corseted down the left side, starting right below my breasts, and stopping just at my hips. The skirt came out with a slight slit in the front revealing sheer layers underneath. It had long sleeves that came down in a point at your fingers, and the top part covering my chest was in a classic white, peasant top form. It was amazing how beautiful it was, it almost seemed to glow... Seeing how entranced I was by it, she smiled, and draped it over my arm.
“I see you like it, why don't I help you try it on?”
“Yyess, please. Thank you.”
When it was on,
and I was standing in front of the mirrors, I felt my jaw drop. I couldn't believe that it could be prettier on, but it was.
"Oh, I knew it! It fits you perfectly! Do you like it?”
“Are you teasing? I love it! How much is it? I think it would be perfect for our dinner with you and your husband.”
I turned to get money out of my bag, but she stopped me, laying her hand on my arm. I looked at her confused. She smiled.
“Consider this dress my wedding gift to you. It could not possibly be suited for anyone but you.”
"I couldn't possibly..."
"Really. I insist."
I leapt on her in a hug.
I couldn't begin to understand how she could be that nice to me, a stranger, but I was certainly grateful, suspecting I could not have afforded it otherwise.
“Thank you so much, I don't even know how to express my appreciation. It is so beautiful.”
