LFO

LFO is your unseen assistant who makes your synth patches sound amazing :) Just kidding! LFO is a great tool used to automate various aspects of your synth programing in Helm.

An LFO is another name for Low Frequency Oscillator. We have already learned about three oscillators in Helm: Oscillators 1, 2, and Sub. These three are able to be heard, but the LFO is not meant to be heard. The LFO is an oscillator, but it is meant to function as a controller for other functions within Helm.

The LFO creates various sound waves the same as the other oscillators, but with the LFO the patterns created by these wave are connected directly to the input controls of other modules. As a wave pattern goes up or down so does the input control of a specified module.

You can specify which module you want your LFO to control by first clicking on the 'helmet' of the LFO then the control you want the LFO to manipulate. Once you have done this you can reclick the helmet to engage the LFO. Now when you play a note the LFO will control that module. I show details on how to do this process in the video tutorial.

You are provided with three LFOs in Helm: LFO's 1, 2 and Poly LFO. Each of these can independently control a variety of functions. Explore the LFO and you will be amazed at what can be done with these oscillators.

As with all the modules in Helm, LFO is meant to be used in coordination with other modules to create unique sounds. Explore what this and all the other modules have to offer you.

I hope you have enjoyed this video tutorial on Helm. There will be more tutorials to follow.
Cheers,
